This car is not mine, it belongs to a friend of mine -- I just bum around it and get dirty. Oh yeah, and the hookers.
We found the car out in Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- 500 bucks. We were aware the motor was s***, and upon arrival, the nitrous bottle brackets clued us in a bit. Heinous. On the way home, we stopped at the Iowa 80 truck stop, and tried to fire it up. It started. And shot a lot of fire.
2 days later, we picked up a used 12A motor and spare trans for 100 bucks from a Ken (Captain KRM). Upon removal of the original motor, it was clear that 4 of the 6 apex seals were fractured, and we were pretty sure it shouldn't have run at all. We put the 'new' motor in, and got it running. It ran pretty decent, save for a couple of issues with the carb. Rebuilt the carb, tuned it up a bit, and it became driveable.
A week later, we changed the oil, diff oil, trans fluid and plugs. I took it out for a spin just to see how things were running. Seemed solid, and even had a bit of get up. As I proceeded to pull away from a stop sign, I stalled the car. Rather, the engine seized. Now when I say seized, I mean harder than a 12 year old on viagra. We discovered that there was no oil in the OMP lines. Awesome.
Fast forward to 2 weeks later. My friend found a 12A in a salvage yard in Texas. Got the motor shipped, and ordered a new carb and some other parts. Whacked that motor in, and got the correct jets and whatnot. Wheels and tires just came Friday. Here are some various pics from the process:
This is how the car looked when we got it. Faded paint, Hoosier decals (take note: bald all-season 185/70/13 tires do not qualify as slicks. Original owner: tool.)
New motor in, fluids spilled everywhere.
Me, double checking something. Probably looking for a hooker.
Back end shot, same morning/night.
***** stole my radio.
Swapping oil pans.
Motor in, no manifolds attached.
What.
Manifolds on, filling up with coolant. The white cloud in the pics is actually from the ATF being smoked out of the rotor housings, not the coolant funnel as it appears. In 2 minutes, the entire shop looked like a volcano erupted.
Turtle Wax buffers do not help 25 year old Mazda paint.
Or do they?
Wheels and tires. Needs fender flares. Bad.
Assorted pics from Mazda meet.
bad top shot of new motor.
Drivers side view.
Again, fender flares. Notice Spec 5.
Multiple highway pulls: blue header and WWII erupting from muffler.
Current mods:
Weber 48 IDA Downdraft carb, jetted by RotaryShack, Racing Beat intake manifold
Racing Beat header
Dual Leading Direct Fire Ignition (DLDFIDSJDHFBFI)
Holley Fuel Pump and Regulator
Hankook 205 and 225/15s, mounted on custom race wheels from Diamond Racing
"Tom's" muffler with crazy JDM-tyte turndown
I have a feeling it is faster than the Spec. It's not uber fast, but it's fun as hell, and the cost to build is next to nothing. Anyways, enjoy my slew of shyt pictures.
P.S. I'm not actually 3 feet tall.
