Fake exhaust?!?

So I was following a brand-new-from-the-factory Mazda 3 this morning and its right exhaust pipe was pumping out steam like all cars do in Minnesota on a cold morning; its left was totally blank. Did Mazda really slap a non-functional, fake exhaust outlet on the back of the 3? How tacky is that? Of course a transverse I4 engine doesn't have any good reason to have two exhausts *anyway* since the manifold is logically a 4-into-1 design, but a 4-1-2 at least means the exhausts are functional. Tell me I'm wrong and this person's left pipe was just clogged or something. I don't want to have to lump Mazda with Pontiac in my head :)

Take a look under car.

On the CX-5 the dual outlets/tips off of a single muffler are functional.

I have looked under our M3 i Touring, and it has a HUGE muffler across the whole back end of the car, with a tip on each side. And the tips aren't visible from behind. I suspect there is a blockoff to increase back pressure during cold starts to warm it up quicker.

With moving part(s), I hope not.

On a cold morning start here (low 50's) I can see steam coming out of both sides. I can feel air coming out of both sides too. Do you feel air coming out of the left one?
