My Mazda Project is turning out to be a headache!
I bought the car for $500 and ordered the Head Gasket and Timing Belt kits on ebay for $100/each.
I replaced the head gasket, water pump, belts, Paid a local shop to Resurface the Head and Valve Job for $180.
Put it all back together. Started right up! Set ignition timing and put new plugs in.
I failed smog 3x so far after replacing O2 Sensor, EGR, Vacuum Sensor, and cleaning Carb and TPS, etc.
I have no Check Engine lights and the car runs fine without overheating.
Now...the bad news. I bought a Radiator Pressure Test Kit, Compression Test Kit, and Leakdown Test Kit from Harbor Freight.
Here are the results:
Radiator Pressure Test
I had to tighten the upper and lower radiator hose clamps a bit.
Compression Test
#1: 140psi
#2: 150psi
#3: 120psi (low)
#4: 148psi
Leakdown Test
#1: Seems Ok
#2: Radiator Bubbles!
#3: Seems Ok
#4: Seems Ok
Now...why would #2 have a Radiator Leak but #3 have low compression? Doesn't make any sense to me??
I'm thinking the shop that resurfaced my head failed to check for cracks or the block has a crack by #2.
Could this be why my car is failing smog and has high NO PPM?
Should I just put some Head Gasket or Block Sealant and see if that fixes it to pass smog?
The car is running ok and I'm driving it unregistered but have a temp permit.
