Failed Brake Job

Hey guys
Sorry if I’m repeating similar topic.
During replacement of rear brake pads I accidently turn ignition on while rear brake pads removed ( was trying to turn EPB off, which I realised lately )

During this boo boo, caliper piston extended all the way out. Tried windback tool but it doesn’t fit in
Any way to fix this? Hope I haven’t done any serious damage

On cars with EPB, I think damage occur if you try to retract the piston WITHOUT turning EPB off. In your case, you simple extended the piston, which is fine. Try Needle noise plyers and push hard and turn rightly tightly. Make sure you open (loosen) the brake fluid reservoir fill cap before you push it back in. If needle noose does not turn, you can rent a free caliper retraction tool from AutoZone (Amazon if you can't get a ride there)

 
have you been able to retract the electric motor like in service mode? (don't even know if it can be done on Mazda) If not, you need to remove the motor to be able to push the piston back.

Did the piston completly came out or is it still in it's cylinder? did it leak fluid or not?
 
Unfortunately, the EPB motor pushed the piston all the way out. You cannot push or twist the piston back in manually because the EPB actuator (push rod?) is still extended. You will have to remove the EPB motor I believe, or if possible, retract the rod by turning the EPB motor with a screw driver. I can't remember which way to turn the motor though. My gut tells me turning it clockwise retracts the push rod. Maybe try googling that particular method. If the push rod has extended too far, it may have disengaged from the motor, in which case you are probably better off removing the motor and retracting it that way. Worst case scenario? A new caliper. Oops.
 
I made that mistake while doing CX-5 rear brake. I tried to put it back the piston but failed. I just picked up a new caliper from the dealer to finish the brake job.
 
I got lucky and caught it 2nd time. There was more info on EPA by then. First time it push out, my brother removed it all and rebuild it. I'm very glad I have his old school knowledge.

I'm still happy I own a Mazda. They allow us to enter service mode and do this. Hyundai is entering a very dark time now on their right to repair. Look up the current issue with it if you want.
 
I forgot, but I posted issue long ago. Unsure this website or not. To fix it, you remove the rubber shoe. Do a tear down, turn it. You would need these tools. Iside the clip prevent the turn is held together with snap ring type. Then once you take and place all gears in correctly. Hardest thing is the dame silicon cover. It's such a pain to push it back cleanly. Kept popping out. Forgot did we used a clamp to compress just turn it.

Thanks Fellas... ended up getting this to mechanic. He charged me $600 AUD to fix and service old caliper... Expensive mistake I guess....:(
 
USA would take $300 and a week for parts to come. Think about it this way, you learn and got better. Next time you need to do it. You know you see not going to have to pay $200-400 per axle to be done. I just swap out my front set yesterday. Save me $200 minimum. Time wise, probably faster then driving to the shop and waiting for service. Take care man
