F25M-R Differentials

Mazda Protege 1.8 ES 5spd
So I cracked my trans open yesterday and had a look at my differential that went zoom zoom boom. I sheared the teeth right off the spider gears (the top and bottom ones that rotate around the left to right gears)

I just called mazda and all four gears are around 48 per gear(x4) and thats almost as much as I can get a new(used) trans for. Can I use any differential from another F25-R transmission (as in not from a 99/00 1.8) or do the different final drive ratios mean no? If thats I should be able to install the spider gears from another F25M-R transmission right?

What car did the F25-R transmission come off from? I can't find any info on the F25-R to help you, also welcome to the F25M-R blown differential group, I had mine go last fall, I just ended up replacing the entire transmission, solved any major headaches with taking the old one apart and putting it back together.

I just came back from my shop as I had to clean up after doing a clutch/flywheel swap on an MSP.

I had a closer look at my trans and I noticed also that the final drive gear on the main shaft has a chip missing from it. As far as I know that gear is part of the mainshaft itself. I'll just get another trans I and maybe a tranny shop will give me 40 bucks for all the good parts left over so I can buy myself a case of beer for when I install another tranny.

Anyways here are some pictures.
You can see the side gears have the teeth shaved almost totally off in some spots, they *should* look like the main gears and not flat. The chunk gross looking metal and grease is the magnet from inside the trans and the last two pics are of the mainshaft with a chipped final drive gear.

i have a diff from a 2003 protege 5 and the pin that holds it together is weled so it will never come apart

Thats a G series transmission the diff is the wrong size to work in my F series transmission.

110k miles

So you fit the MSP trans in yours?

I am going to attempt to :P

I onlyjust picked up the parts last night. paid 600$ for the transmission, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and the 2 axles.

The transmission has 65 000 km on it.

Considering the shop wanted 1600$ to replace mine.. I just have to make sure that the labour and fluids etc that will have to go into this - not to mention the food and beer to pay off my friends - will total less than a grand

Really? Because the AWR mounts are compatible with both engine / trans combos (I have them in my car)

If you take your time and you should be able to find all the parts for relatively cheap anyways. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The actual side mount brackets are different because the G series transmission is larger which requires the engine to be offset more to the passenger side of the car.

That's why the AWR motor mount install was a B***H..
