I would love to see some #s other than dyno to support the SMIC and FMICs being sold. Everyone knows the purpose of an intercooler is to cool the incoming air period. Everyone also remembers the basic chemistry ideal gas formula PV = nRT. So the way we should be measuring how good an IC is incoming and outgoing air temp. Second, an IC creates a pressure drop (SMIC has less pressure drop than a FMIC). So, the second thing that should be measured incoming and outgoing from the IC should be difference in airflow. Other than that the factors are weight, type of material and parts used, and quality of build. I'm sure that we will never see those data #s because all a vendor really has to do is stick a part on here that looks pretty and say it's an upgrade or mod and everyone will pay $900 to $1000 dollars on it without any proof of it's efficiency. Why would a vendor take the time to put up results when they know people will just jump on something? It's the way of the world that people who sell products assume that the buyers are ignorant. There is a couple of vendors on this forum that take the time to answer everyone's questions completely and thoroughly because they know they have good products. Really take a look at how vendors respond to questions about their products quality on this forum. To get back on track, the purpose of an IC is not just HP, but to cool the air that the extremely hot turbo and the heat generated by the compression of gasses in the cylinders creates (which wears on an engine). There is vendors on here that know what they are doing, and pay attention to every last detail of a products effect on the car. That's why I'm willing to pay more for some vendor's products.

Now there is somebody who is thinking. Same cooling effect, less pressure drop, less weight, easy to assemble.

Hey, in the article thats posted about the CS IC it says they are coming out with a FMIC too and an ECU controler. What happen to that?

Didn't ProPartsUSA develop a SMIC a while back? Come on were is it.
And the only reason CS has a higher price for their SMIC is because its the only one in the market, and they can control it. Until someone else comes out with one (hint hint) and the price might change.

Actually the SMIC (or even dare I say it, the stock SMIC) with the CO2 spray....it should have a lot more cooling effect than a FMIC alone.

People here have rigged up a CO2 sprayer using a small paintball gun CO2 tank, I'm going to do the same. It should be good

I believe so. There is a few members who have done it themselves I'm sure you'd find some info on a search. I think there was someone selling them for about the same as it would cost for the materials to make it.

has anyone thought about dis-assembling the stock SMIC and maybe having real endtanks welded on? I'm not very knowledgeable on intercoolers so i could be completely stupid for throwing this idea out, but couldnt you just remove the plastic end tanks and weld alum ones on?

Heard Back from Jpec about the CircuitSport SMIC

Here is what they wrote:

the pre production run of the intercooler didn't pass our quality inspection so we are waiting for the final production version to decide.
as for group buy, depend on how many unit we get then we can decide from there.
we'll post up a group buy if we do get the ok from circuit sports.

i wouldnt count on a massive price decrease......circut sport is the ONLY company that makes a smic......ovbious they are enjoyin the monoployand are jackin their price because of it.......im still hopin forge works one out too so we can have some competion and friend price battles

I called Forge not too long ago regarding the fmic. They told me that it was still very early in the planning stages, and there is no smic.

oh... I also called Greddy. They scrapped the fmic project.

HAHA.....figures...there is no real market to put it out....sad

mattybo - its not the plastic endtanks that make the stock smic bad...its the flow and cooling of it.....if i remembr it is only 2" thick and a tube and fin design....it was not made to handle the amount of air a modded msp requires efficently. the circut sport smic looks to be a good 3.5-4" thick and is a much better bar and fin setup that flows much more air.....i dont see how it owuld be hard for a shop to fab this...the only issue i have is findin a core that can fit in the stock location and be a end to end style core.....

Dont forget that our stock IC was not even built for our car or tested for our cars ... all the R+D for it was done to fit a European model Turbo Diesel.

propartsusa is just a name of one of the members here who works for Tri-Point Engeneering.......

Tri-Point never developed any IC for our car.
they tested MAZDASPEED FMIC that was given to them (i got pics if anyone is interested)
they also tested SMIC that was designed by Protosport (later known as Circuit Sport)
