How many of you guys got exhaust now? Thats like the first mod im going to do right when I get my car back its just I dont know what to ask for. I heard 3" stainless is the best or somthing i dont know help me ;X I dont even know what the difference between cat-back and regular is im so newbie =[

As far as exhaust go, your choices are 1) custom:you pick the muffler, and pay for the piping, welding, and decide your own sizes. It is definatley the most cost effective way to go, but keep this in mind...why do you think people make fun of Honda's and their COFFEE CAN MUFFLERS???. 2)Cat-back: name says it all. It is designed to maximize exhaust flow, and they are application specific. As in, turbo only, not for the MP3...They are pricey($500-700 normally), but they are tuned just the right way. 3) A rear section muffler(if they make them for the MSP) Basically, an exhaust that bolts up to your stock piping, usually somewhere around the rear strut area. It can run fine off your stock pipe. Usually about $300

thx for quick reply! Where can I get a Cat-Back for the MSP or do I just have a shop make one? And what do I ask for? Whats the total cost? I want to go with max performance and sound (not the coffee can, but the deep nice sound)

I talked to Motorsport Dynamics in Sac., CA. They found me a GReddy Evolution catback(I have the same one on my Civic) for $590. It is a little more than I expected, but remember, this is a special car...Supposedly it had a problem, and got held up in developemnet(or recalled back, I forget) But they said it should be out now, if not in the next week or so. I strongly reccommend a cat-back system, oviously because of the performance, but think about it this way also. If you buy a universal muffler and get it welded on, and then have a problem with the car that you need to take it to the dealer, you don't need them hassling you about an exhaust. If you have one that bolts up, simply replace it with your stock one if needed.

thats very nice. What width is that? And real fast what are the parts to an exhaust? Is the downpipe one of them? If I get a cat-back like this one (will this exact one fit my MSP or are they comming out with ones for the MSP) should I get a downpipe to increase my performance even more? Also what kind of sound do these make?

Oh ya one more thing can you post a link of your MSP with those skunk 2 coilovers I was thinking about lowering mine a bit. I didnt know if I would get just shorter springs or coilovers.

the mazdaspeed has the same exhaust as the mp3,which is a rear section. as of right now there are now cat backs made for turbo applications, the ones made that will fit, the pipeing is still to small for turbo applications so the car still won't breath very well. also the greddy evo made for the protege is for the p5 only it will not fit a mp3, or mazdaspeed.

The guy at Motorsport Dynamics called GReddy directly, with me standing in front of him. I don't think he would lie to me when I didn't have the cash in my hand anyways, but then again, maybe the guy at GReddy was an idiot. As far as the downpipe that will almost certainly be custom. Shouldn't be too hard for a reputable shop to create though.
I don't know what you meant by link...a picture, or a link to the website...I looked on their website, and sure enough, they only show a P5 coilover kit...Whatever...my car is slammed. If you want a pic, here you go...

Yeah i called them when i first got the car about a turbo timer harness which was a big Negative! Yeah they said it would be coming out. Anyone know the size???

I'm figuring 70mm opening up to 80mm after the resonator, or close to that 80-90 seems a little to big for a 170HP car. I'm pretty sure my Civic is 60mm opening to 70mm.

danng 2k3 nice drop! Im diggin that... Gotta get that done on my baby after spring for sure! Thx for the pics btw!

i have talked to greddy the evo only fits on the p5, they said they were looking into the mazdaspeed, but did not know for certain if they would do anything with the mazdaspeed. also for turbo applications i woud go with at least a 3"(80mm) diameter exhaust.

You're talking about the exhaust for a turbo...remove the words "too big" from your vocabulary:).

Zero backpressure is your goal if you want maximum torque and horsepower from your engine (noise notwithstanding.)

The turbo itself should do a great job of quieting the engine...

Where do you think the term "turbo muffler" came from? ...The old Chevy Corvair turbo didn't need as much muffling because of the turbo setup, and the other hot rodders figured it out for their muscle cars....
Of course, I could be full of $hit, too ;)

Has any companies taking interest in our cars? I want exhaust so bad hopefully some company will help us out and make one!
