whats a good type of exhaust tip for the p5 ? as well as cold air intake ? im just starting to do modding so im a nub so go easy on me and give me links or something, if anyone goes to the lewisville tuesday meets or whatever i might be there to talk to some other mp5'ers

i have the hks axleback exhaust. not a full catback. its a nice canister style.

if not, go with the tanabe hiper exhaust. has the traditional oval muffler with nice straight tip. real clean look. and good sound.

cold air: injen. its the cleanest looking. people will tell you ebay ones, but i dont trust the fitment will be exact.

Megan racing catback is nice too. I got mine from AODfan here on the forum for a reasonable price.

i second the notion and wanted to plug aodfan as well.

i know you will get this a lot but there has to be a new exhaust thread started every other week the search button does wonders. when in doubt search the site!

PM me for prices and availability on all kinds of exhausts and intakes for this car

mazdaspeed protege axel back... mod the tip. corksport turbo back without the axel back peice for the rest. sounds very WRX like

I have had the ebay SRI with a K&N filter and actually got 3 wheel horsepower from it on the dyno.

But for looks INJEN CAI is really nice. If you plan on doing a full exhaust, I'd suggest you get a header of your choice. They are all pretty much the same for our cars give or take a few ponies. Get the header ceramic coated by a reputable company like www.jet-hot.com

Next I recomend updrading the midpipe to something like a Mental Addiction Motorsports high flow mid pipe.

Last I had the MAZDASPEED axle back. It was ok for the price but had a drone at 3500 rpms. Then when I installed the header & midpipe it got really loud in the car. I had to yell inside to talk at freeway speeds.

So I went to the Magnaflow cat back exhaust. It is so nice. It has an aggressive sound and is louder but doesn't have a drone to it.

You asked for links

HKS sounds nice, I would go with a megan racing catback if I had to do it again, or if my friend didnt have the hks in his garage. My ebay cai fit together fine, just the filters suck pretty bad. Save your money on it and dont bother with it. Only decent hp gain = header. Few bucks more than CAI.

I have the Greddy Evo2 cat-back. High quality, looks great and sounds excellent. And as far as a intake I have the AEM SRI.

Racing Beat as the closest to stock sounding exhaust, I'd go with that or the meghan

injen for the cai :)

OBX header

Starting to Mod? Here is my take.

Right after I got my P5, I got the intake. You can get a short ram intake (SRI), which is what I have. Others have cold air intakes (CAI) They are about the same on ebay, but you may also opt for name brand. I have the ebay...

The next thing I did was get rid of those god forsaken Dunflop piece of s*** stock tires. I hydroplaned within the first week or so I owned the P5. I ended up with the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. 205-50-16's on the stock rims. After 23000 miles, they were through, so I got aftermarket wheels, and Kumho Ecsta 711 205-40-17s. There are a bazillion threads about tires. These I highly recommend for rainy climates. (Bottom line, get out of the stock tires before you have a problem!)

I just got (after 2.5 years of owning my car) a Racing Beat exhaust. I got an insanely good deal on it. It is on the higher end of the pricing range, but you can score one used at a good rate if you are on the forum within the .245 seconds someone posts it for sale used. They run in the high $400 range new. There is a Mazda Sport (Mazdaspeed) exhaust which is also popular, but people have complained of droning, or an annoying sound at freeway speeds. The Racing Beat does not do that. But there are a bazillion threads about the exhaust subject too, look them up.

Then there is the tinting of windows, a stereo, springs/shocks/body kit, carbon fiber everything, etc you will see around here for sale.

Short shifter is next on my list. Kartboy makes a great one, I have seen it in person. The shifter bushings are a must. Get them no matter what. More than one vender here sell them.

I found by moving to synthetic engine and transmission fluids, I get better mileage, and it shifts smoother too. So easy to do, it is worth it.

One more thing you should consider when you mod is a header. OBX and Ractive are the most common. I just installed the Ractive, and love the HP gains. Be sure to look up the Spark Plug non-fouler trick for the 2nd o2 sensor. It prevents the CEL from coming on.

Well, good luck, and check out the for sale section, and work with the Authorized Venders and sellers! Oh, search for threads about a question you might have. Most likely, it has been covered.

Excellent post Raider...

Just to add a few notes: I really think the Injen CAI is the best out there. I just have a problem with e-bay. Remindes me of K-Mart!

Been doing alot of research on cat-backs, and I'll be going with the GReddy Evo-2 in the spring. A little pricey, but again, I truly feel it's the best.

I'm exhausted after looking at tire upgrades. Final decision: do a set of better all season 205/50R16's on stock wheels for winter, then put on the Kazera KZ-A's (17 x 7.5) with a summer high performance tire on when the snow goes bye-bye. Probably a set of Pirelli PZero Nero M+S for the yuk weather. Also looking at the Falken Ziex ZE512s, the Toyo Proxes4s, and the Hankook Ventus V4 H105s.

So much to do, so much to spend! It gets pretty addicting! Then there's all the little tricked out mods, like fogs on with parking lights, changing to a variablr intermittant wiper stalk from the MPV, rails on or off... ugh!

Have fun!

The intake debate has been around since they ebay SRI came out. All I can say, is that for $75, I got a polished SRI with a K&N filter. Injen is a lot of money, but if you live in a state that requires that carb sticker, you kind of need it.

The biggest problem people have had with the ebay SRI is the rubbing issue with the master cylinder. Some have cut off an inch going into the intake manifold. I was able to just position it to where it will not rub, and have no complaints. I have seen the ebay CAI, and it is an inexpensive version of the Injen, which you are pretty much paying for the name.

Raider... 2 questions...

1st: What header do you have? Looks very nice and I'm in that market.
2nd: why are we boycotting Sears? I'm all about causes, so wondering what it's about.
On that note, boycott KFC.

1) I have Ractive header. I love it, best HP gains for my car so far. Keeps that look too.
2) Sears sucks at customer service, and gave me, a lifelong customer, tons of s*** trying to exchange a friggin $25 floorjack that I had used a half a dozen times until it dumped oil all over my driveway. (the wheels still had the black paint on them!) Even though my house is all Sears, and since I lost my reciept, they refused to exchange it or repair it, and asked me to leave the store. Calls to corporate, letters, and emails, no help. I no longer shop there. But 2 wekes ago, I got a ghetto girl from customer service to call me. About an hour on the phone with the store manager (again) he found a purchase made with cash and a Craftsman Club Card. I got a new one the next day. Of course, I also threatened to use the 90 day policy to take back my $300 mower that i just bought and go buy one at Home Depot. The whole ordeal was a pain in the ass, as I had to borrow a floorjack to to work to my car.

I asked for immediately, and am still waiting for, the regional manager's number. The atitude of national customer service, as well as the in-store attitude was horrid.

Think that was a lot? That is the short story of the mess.

And KFC is gross, why eat there anyway? Blech.
