Exhaust/Intake system opinion

Hello everyone! I finally got my silver P5 saturday, the ride is simply amazing! I love it, seats are very very comfortable, and the handling is just amazing...

I'm thinking about exhaust system. I came across the HKS hiper and the racing beat cat-back system. I'm wondering how loud is the HKS hiper? I don't want anything too loud, the racing beat I like because I'm not loud, but the HKS hiper looks better, anyone has it and anyone know it's noise level?

Next is the Intake system. Came across the AEM short ram and the K&N cold air intake system. What the advantage of the short ram and cold air?

Thanks in advance for all your opinions!

I have the RM Racing CAI. I think it's fantastic. I haven't experienced the short ram or that Injen CAI, but the RM CAI has a air scoop that funnels the air through the filter from the front of the car. No other CAI I've seen does this.

This is not my pic, but it's the same intake. The tubing goes to a scoop that is mounted just behind the lower grill. The tubing looks like dryer hose, but it is much sturdier.

I got mine for a discount, but I'll find out what they're going for or you can call Jason and ask him. The number is 1-866-RMRACE1

why?

I've been looking for some sort of educated comparison between the current CAIs and the RM Racing CAI. If you have reasons behind your judgement, I'd like to hear them.

I havent seen the RM yet to compare. Both MHP and Injen used a well built pipe that had an airfilter through the hole toward the tire wel. Not just some hoaky tube that doesn't do s*** since the air filter is exposed and will draw throught the least restriced area the most. Plus the MHP has the AEM water bypass built in.

I don't have an MHP I have a turbo.
However you can get them from MHP directly, i would give you the web adress but it doesn't work anymore.

Well, from what I understand, the RM Racing CAI operates in two ways.

1) at low speeds, the engine pulls the most amount of air from the engine compartment through the foam filter (which by the way allows better air flow and blocks smaller particles than gauze filters). This is similar to how the Short Ram operates. This also gives better response than the Injen CAI because it has less distance to pull the air.

2) at higher speeds, the filter actually operates as a release valve for the Ram Air scoop mounted on the front of the car. The amount of air being forced into the engine is actually more than the engine needs, so the excess pressure is released through the filter into the engine compartment. Not only is the air cold, but it is also getting as much as possible to the engine due to the air scoop.

In my opinion, this dual functionality makes the RM CAI much more versatile and effective than both the AEM and the Injen. I am not familiar with the MHP Intake, so please let me know how it compares.

Thanks!

That doesn't make any sense to me. First the crushable vac hose will cuase a bajesus of interference while pulling air. Also the air will alswys be pulled from the least restrictive area of the filter in this case throught the sides. The filter may beable to flow more air then the car can use but only by a car pulling more air. In other words the car can't pull more air then it can use and no matter the filter type it presents a restriction.

This seems to be on the same level as the electronic supercharger crap out there.
But then again why do I care, I have a turbo.

go for the PRM Jet Stream Intake. It is the best one i have seen and the only one i will buy. www.prmracing.com

they don't have the protege model online but give him a call, he can make whatever you want custom

I looked at the website. Couldn't really tell what it did. Does it just pull cold air from the wheel well? or is there a ram air option?

looks very clean tho - i like the filter

cat back exhaust

i installed the racing beat on my p5 about two weeks ago. i think it's great! the sound was just what i was looking for and it looks great too!
