Exercise

I'm just curious how much you people sit around, or get up once in awhile and move around, or exercise like a madman :).

Before college, I was a twerp. I think I started college at 5'11" or 6' and 165lbs. I was quite skinny. I also had the metabolism of a cocaine addict and could eat ridiculous amounts of food. My sophomore year I decided I wanted to look a little less twerpy and began doing situps and pushups and curls. After finding my girlfriend (still going strong) I slowly stopped with that ;). Around this time I think my metabolism began changing and I started to gain weight.

Fast forward to now - a year and a half after school, and I weighed 193 or so. Maybe it was the car, or the job (sitting at a computer desk = no more walking a mile and back to class each day), or just plain laziness. I couldn't bear my man-boobs any more. I started telling my friends to call me A-cup. I also had a nice round stomach from all of that booze.

I decided after this new years I was going to make a change. So I basically started running at my apartment's club house on the treadmill (too cold outside), doing some weight lifting, and back to situps and pushups 3 or 4 times a week. I also started to eat different. I still eat everything I used to, just less of it. I take half home with me when going out to eat etc.

2.5 months later I'm 18 pounds lighter and could swear I actually see some form coming back :). I feel great, and have saved much more money from all of the leftovers I have now :). I also don't see a reason to get heavy again. I still enjoy all of the foods I used to, but in moderation, so I won't all of a sudden crave cookie dough ice cream and be found passed out on my couch with four empty cartons of it on me :D. Oh, and my boobs have receded back to their original place!

Well, thats my story, I guess I'm just bored.

Oh man since High School I have soooooo let myself go down the hill.
I've always weighed between 140-150, and I'm currently 6, 1.
But difference back then was it was more toned etc. Could run a 1/4 mile around 53-55seconds. Now I'd be lucky to even make it the 1/4 mile

There's this whole lack of ahhh what is that thing...Oh time! But eventually I'll get up and stop staring at the clubhouse across the street and actually walk in. That and start crew back up again....well maybe not.:o

I find one of the best forms of exercise is Mountain Biking. I try to get out as much as possible to the mountains or I'll just ride a few blocks around the neighborhood. That and just being outdoors is a big plus too. Beats sitting behide this desk!

Unfortunely to mtn bke around here you need to drive to parks etc. And by then I rather stay in the car and go driving. :D

Sometimes I spend my entire Saturday shuttling up South Mountain here and doing some downhill... Driving to your trail is just part of the adventure. Anyone in AZ will tell you that taking Summit road up south mtn is one hell of a curvy road :D so you get the best of both

DooMer,
as I read your post, I thought I was writing it!
I left college at 5'10" 160. Weighed in last december at 192. Decided I was a fat lazy slob, bought a treadmill and some weights, and am now on the road to recovery. Weighed in at 179 this morning. Yes, I weigh myself every day. My goal is to average 6-7 miles of running every week for 20 weeks. I am 7 weeks in and doing pretty well so far. If I'm ever watching TV, I am sititng on my new bench and doing curls or presses (military, incline, bench). I've definitely noticed the difference. I hate sitting here at work for 10 hours though. I feel like a slug and I have WAY too much anxious energy now. It drives people nuts, but I feel better.
Just a thought, but I take Ripped Fuel when I get home before I run and/or lift. Don't know if it's just mental or not, but I think it helps.
You're not alone.

I left highschool at 155lbs and actually played a year of college football at that weight at a small in state college. Then I decided to bulk up alittle. Since then it's about 8yrs straight (with a few weeks off here and there) of working out 6 days a week and I've been right around 185-190. I'm addicted to working out...I can't go 2 days without felling terrible if I don't workout. I used to be a meathead (lifting as hard and heavy as I could) but now I just try to maintain a good healthy form. Going into the healthcare profession I believe you need to look heathly before you can advise a patient about health. It's hard to listen to a fat person tell you what to do to become healthy or how to eat right.

ooh, my laziness beats all

I'm 5'8" and big frame, in HS I probably weighed around 150 (don't really know). Anyway, through college it was a rollercoaster, until I got settled with my girlfriend (now ex) and plus, the period looking for a job after college didn't help either.

Anyway, the weight gain during that time was huge, I was obese and weighing probably around 210!!

I missed my old fit body of old and was feeling like s**t, got into gym, started eating right, and now 7 months later I've lost at least 40lbs and am at 170 and still going down steadily.

I needed a lifestyle change and new that if I did something radical I would lose weight fast but wouldn't be able to keep it up.
I'm very happy that I'm going back to my original weight, but what annoys me is that I got that obese in the first place.

Although it isn't really exercise in the losing weight area but I found that using a set of handsprings has been great.

I keep one in the car while I drive and Holy crap it even helps out with road rage. Somebody cut you off squeeze off 20.

Keep another one on the couch and spend the commercials working the cords.

If you play any sports, doing this has helped out almost all of them for me. My smash in badminton and tennis are bullets now.
My golf swing is more fluid and controled. And a wrist shot in hockey is now something to fear.

Don't want to sound like an infomercial, but even this little bit has helped out. Highly recommend it to anyone

I exercise at Shapes 3 times a week....mainly strength training, some cardio.....I've been at it for about 2 months and i'm feeling great:cool:

NordicTrack WorldClass Sport Graphite

At 6'4" 180 lbs., I catch hell all the time from my friends. 34" in the waist now, but I was 32". At 48; it isn't that easy - because I love to eat! And of course; it goes to my stomach. When I used to play tennis all the time, it was easier. But since we moved away from everything out in Oakland, things changed - got lazy, etc,,,etc,,,

But for 48, I feel pretty good. Plus; I love good beer!

The NordicTrack is great for an all around workout.

Well its good to see I'm not the only one who let myself go for awhile ;). I forgot to mention, I think a big thing was that for the first two years of school I continued to play tennis (played most of grade school, all of high school), and played basketball here and there with my friends in the dorms. This all slowed down when we moved into a house that was not too close to such luxuries. That and the evil bus line we lived on :).

Here's my story.

Started Highschool around 180 lbs.
Played Soccer on Multiple teams all through highschool, and did a log of mountain biking and swimming in the summer.
Started College at 195 lbs.
Didn't do s*** the first year and peaked at almost 220 lbs. That summer I worked as a field surveyor and spend 8hrs a day hiking around the mountains. 195 lbs
When back to school and got back up to around 215. I stayed between 210 and 215 until I got done with college. I would work out probably 2 to 5 times a week. I graduated college at around 215.

I have been doing much more working out, have been hitting the hills on my mountain bike (hope to race this year) and pay BBall 2 or 3 time a week for around an hour. I also found weight lifting.

I now rund between 200 and 210 lbs, depending on how much weight work I do.

It is nice to see that other people are doing something about their life and helps to show that it is possible to change what you are. Good luck to everyone.

Oh yea, can't wait you use my new p5 so shuttle around my bike and camping and fishing gear.

Exercise!?

What is exercise?!
LOL
I only exercised in high school when I was forced too. So then I joined band to get out of it.
flash foward to today, and my excercise consists of typing on this keyboard

I try to get to the gym at least 2 times a week. With the cold weather and late nights at work it's been tough getting the energy to go more often. All this fast food hasn't helped much either, I need to start cooking healthy again ;)

If I could lose about 5lbs around my waist I'd be happy.

You know what is funny....or not, is the fact that I sat down with 2 hoho type cakes and started reading this....oh the guilt :(

I graduated high school weighing about 195lbs. (I'm 6'1") I was an average build, except I had big thighs. They were big as in muscular from doing heavy leg workouts and playing football. My upper body was toned, but not overly impressive, hehe.

Well, graduation from high school was 1989, graduation from college was 1994 and I weighed about 250 lbs at that point. I had actually lived with my girlfriend my last 2 years of college, so I got comfortable, fat and lazy. Well, I let that go for a few years and decided to do something about it and ended up loosing about 36 lbs which ended up putting me at 220. That lasted for almost 2 years and then I found myself married. Haha, guess what, I am 250 lbs again.

Right now, I have a herniated cervical disc and am having some major problems with my knees. I have been off of work for almost 2 weeks and I have realized that once I am able to walk normally again  I need to do something about my exercise habits. I get the MRI results on Monday, may end up having to have surgery on my knees sooner or later, but I will be 32 in May and something has to change. It's funny, I have been pondering this for a while, who knows, hearing how people on this board are doing healthy things might actually help push me. I would like to get back to about 220 lbs.

We'll see.

peace
Griff

I left high school 5'10" or 5'11", weighing 145.... Now i have started working out non stop for like the past 8 or 9 months, and now i weigh close to 180 which is mostly muscle, with exception to genetics which prevents me from having glistening abs of steel...Genentics are a b****, and to over come them it takes tons and tons of working out, and i haven't been able to beat them as of yet, but i am determined to do it.

Wow I guess that makes me the heaviest member here. I'm 5'11 @ 268 (weighed in this morning). I graduated back in 95 at about 220 but I've gained alot of muscle maturity since then- broader shoulders, thicker build all together.
It's not however all fat, granted my waist is 40' but that's not too large considering I'm well into the 200's and under 6'. I train 4 days a week, mainly a powerlifting type work-out. Bench, squat, deadlifts....etc. In the spring, summer, and fall I train 5 days a week- 3 days weights, 2 days Jiu Jitsu. I currently trying to lean out down to about 230-235, at that weight I'd have a 36' waist and 13% bodyfat. Hmmm my poor P5. I'm over 100lbs heavier than some of you- you know what that means in the 1/4. lol For ever 100lbs it's a tenth of a second. :)
