Exedy or Fidanza?

the fidanza has a swappable friction surface for when maintenance is needed. that said, a heavier flywheel is going to be more streetable as the revs will not drop as fast as the lighter flywheel. owning a 5 myself, i would go with the exedy.

How about the clutch... what is the major different between Exedy stage 1 and stage 2? Same clutch disc different pressure plate, or same pressure plate diffferent clutch disc, or everything are different?

i always run the fidanza. that, and a aftermarket clutch's are usually my very 1st mods. fidanza's are by far my fav mod though.

i see no reason to run anything other than a stage 1 on this car unless you are going to run huge amounts of power to the wheels. stage 1 will be far more street comfortable than anything stronger.

Of course! And for some reason... my clutch is slipping in the 3k to 4k rpm range.... and it is working fine outside of that range...

I would go with the 12lb exedy. When i had my prelude i put a 12lb act flywheel in it and it was perfect for street and track. However, I put the stock clutch in because i couldnt afford the stage 1 exedy.

king57721, how's the new clutch and flywheel? assuming you installed the Exedy Stage 1 and lightweight flywheel... What's the difference in feel? Is pedal pressure about the same? drivability? please tell us what you can. I have 80k on my 06 Mz5 Touring and the clutch has begun slipping. considering the Exedy Stage 1 and lightwt flywheel but haven't seen much feedback.

I'm running an Exedy Stage 1 clutch with stock flywheel. Love the setup. Feels like the clutch just grabs more, yet it feels close to stock.

Thx DKaz. I read in the lounge you also running Redline MTL. Did you swap in the MTL yourself? How much does it need? I have 2 qts laying around. But haven't figured out what weight the Mz5 should use.

MT90 actually. It needs 3.03 qts though I only put 3.00 qts in. The guy who put in my clutch replaced the fluid.

Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit and lightwt flywheel went in Friday. Feels like stock. Just happy to be able to drive it. It was slipping so badly on the way to the shop. They showed me the old parts. It was badly burnt, there was almost nothing left on the disc, the disc rivets scored the flywheel, and the extreme heat discolored the flywheel. I would've needed a new flywheel anyway. I should've taken some pics, but decided to leave the old parts behind for disposal. Original clutch was probably on the edge when I bought the car with 70K on it. I put another 10K before it was slipping. My wife drove the Mazda for the first time today after the new clutch was installed, and she spun the tires unintentionally.

80K on the clutch? Well, guess I have 32K to go...I bet this thread will be dead and buried by the time I want to upgrade the clutch/flywheel. Speed5, you got them both from Exedy then?

My stock clutch lasted 150,000km (93,000 miles), I've been the owner since 71,500km.

Yup. Stage1 clutch and lightweight flywheel both Exedy. Thru amazon, free shipping.
