Excessive Tire Chirping

So now whenever I take hard left turns...but ONLY from a stop...my tires chrip and squeak....almost like one of them is dragging. Not normal "spirited" driving noises....it happenes when I am not juicin' it as well. Blown shock? Tires starting to get worn? Evil gnomes? Has anyone else noticed their tires squealing a lot more as they wear?

tire pressure my man. Like the good doc said above.

I GET THIS PROBLEM TOO! 32 PSI in all 4, and very reasonable tread left. only 7k on the clock so i don't believe it to be blown shock(s)

I think it's the LSD doing it's job.
That thought actually crossed my mind...but I just never noticed that kind of squealing from my tires before. It seemed to only happen when it was really hot. Although when I took it in to get new bushings yesterday, I discovered I have blown an axel seal somehow......they are fixing it tomorrow so maybe it has something to do with the noise...although it doesn't sound like it.

I'm pretty sure that it is just the limited slip doing its job. If you had an open diff, then you wouldn't experience that problem at all (tires chirping in the turns), but the limited slip "limits" the "slip" of the two wheels, meaning that during a turn, it is possible for the limited slip to cause a tire to try to break loose because it doesn't cut all of its power. Be happy that both the wheels are trying to spin- in an open diff, only one tire would have the power.

close.

your MSP uses a Tochigi Fuji Sangyo diff. these diffs use a cone clutch similiar to the synchros in your transmission. As tq is applied to the ring gear, the pinions in the diff generate a spreading load as the tires resist turning, forcing the side gears (one on each tire) into friction surfaces and biasing tq to the tire with the most grip.

these diffs have a low tq bias ratio, which makes it nice for FWD applications because it is less likely to wear like a clutch pack diff and offers a lot of side to side slippage, and can bias the tq to the outside tire for roadracing, etc.

now, because of the way they are designed, they only lock up under sufficient load, such as when you make a hard turn under throttle. you shouldnt be getting this hop on low speed turns with nearly no throttle application. they still act like an unlimited slip diff in certain situations (such as when you are performing low speed parking lot manuevers) and can allow a fair amount of slip between the two tires. what you are describing sounds more like a welded, or spool diff, which have adverse effects on low speed driving.

are there any funny noises, or does it just hop a little on u-turns?

mine acts as though it's a fused unit, almost, because in a fused unit if i'm correct either the inside tire squeaks because it's moving too quickly (the speed of the outside tire) or the outside tire squeaks because it's moving too slowly (the speed on the inside tire) in my case, the outside tire is getting what seems like a slight jolt of power , which speeds it up... i don't know LSD's so i'm not sure if that could be the problem but, it seems a good place to start looking.

does it do this under load only, or even when coasting? the diff is pretty much open when youre coasting or braking.

also, does it get darty when braking hard?

in my case this is only from a stop, usually with only myself in the car but occasionally with one passenger. and no brakes are fine aside from needing new rotors or pads at only 8000 miles (i think... when i press on my brakes i get that low pitched vibration like my rotors are warped... freakin mazdas(chair))

if your diff is locked too much, it gets darty under braking too, that is why i asked.

how's your alignment?

not quite sure, might as well get that checked out, as well as balance, because i don't know if it's just me but each of nmy wheels have about 8-9 counterweights on them.
