i got another import tuner magazine today...they converted an evo 8 to a daily driver racecar for the ultimate street car challenge from SCC. really sick...custom "dry carbon" hood and trunk; custom roll cage; lots of bolt-on goodies and custom things mostly from Sparco and A'PEXi. i started to dream about trading my car in for an evo...then it hit me...i'm still 17 BOOHOO

i have heard issues with the sti's turbo when pushin more power (aka boost)....one thing that makes me lean to the evo is the fact that the engine is tried and true and has evolved into a monster....the sti's motor is new and still has alot to work out....i would get a evo.....exedy twin plate clutch right after u pick it up :)

i have not been in an evo yet but i looked at an sti this weekend and well.....lets just say i may be trading in my msp soon. however i don't like the drive by wire. that may take some getting used to. the 04 sti is bad ass plain and simple. as for the evo i will have to go check it out.

No drive by wire on the evo, but Thrill, I drove the STi and there is no lag whatsoever, perfect in everysense. It doesnt have the lag of the Mazda3 I test drove. Someone posted in the WRX forum the benefits, but they are mainly for emissions. I dont like the idea of the computer running the throttle but we better get used to it, since its the future.

AutoBox, I have been reading the WRX forums for awhile now, trying to learn and keep up with the mods available for the car. The only problem with the turbo is that it is too small for the displacement of the 2.5L compared to the 2.0L so at high rpm the turbo can reach its maximum when the limit is raised. But that is no big problem since turbo car available is already using a small turbo. The EVO is at 19psi and that turbo probably cant do more than 23 psi. The STi is at 14.5psi and can probably reach 20psi. The engine is the same as the Forester 2.5 but with a semi-closed deck design and all-aluminum block, no forged internals, but hypercuratic coating :( and new variable valve timing. uff.

EVO is an incredible machine, for pure racing. For everyday driving and ass whooping, the STi is the car.

i'd vote evo....

handling is just amazing. i love my car more and more every day. and buschur has their evo's turbo boosted to 24psi i believe. 11.65 with stock turbo!!

and, how did the mazda 3 have lag? i thought those cars were NA?? it appears by your comments that you care more for straight line performance... which is cool, the STi is more suited for you... handling goes to evo hands down, though.

yeap you are right, I do like straight line performance. Regarding the lag on the 3, is because there is a second or so of delay from when you stump on the gas to were the engine responds. People are blaming it on the drive-by-wire throttle.

so the sti does not have forged guts and the evo does? that sucks! however thats not a huge deal. and as for the handling don't count out the sti. its still a nice ride. i can't say much cause i haven't been to see an evo yet. but i am really inpressed with the sti.

I would say the STi simply for that "quality build" concern, I just don't like the "DSM quality". Plus its damn close to being full rally-ready (wrc) :D

edit: as another detraction from the Evo, most of the Evos I've seen driven on the street are driven by wankers (nuts)

it's too bad the evo is in no way, shape or form a dsm. i'd have to go with the evo being closer to rally ready than the sti is. i've only seen 2 evo's driven around here, so i can't say whether they're for "wankers" or not :p

(blowup)

ya i would go with the EVO as well..and like AutoBox said get a stonger clutch very soon..i know ppl around here that have had it for 2 months and need new clutches..cuz the damn car just wears them out..

I try not to pay attention to anyone driving either one, mostly because I love both and don't want to give them the satisfaction! :D I'd have to drive both, but I've always loved Subaru's...it's a close call...

thats exactly what happened, I like the EVO's tunability and availability of parts. Then I drove it, kind of harsh, my kidneys were beaten to hell. And the feel of the interior was cheesy. Then I test drove the STi, and love it. But dont know anything about the boxer engine and the availability of parts is limited for now. I made my mind on a STi, now debating on Silver or Blue.

well i would say silver if you are looking to be a little less noticed. but after the pirana mobile most things are less noticed. blue is my favorite color but it seems like everyone has that color already. i say go silver.

yeah I like the classic Subaru look of the blue, but I've seen so many blue WRXs that I'm not sure they make any other color :D

High-ho SILVER ! (rofl2)

man thats a close call. its been an evo vs sti battle for awhile. but i must say i would go for the sti. ive seen the evo around here. some mexican dude has it around my place. and s*** it looks soo freakin tight. but he treats it like s***. he took the oem spoiler off put an ricer bit bookself on the back :wtf: . But ive jsut seen better reviews for the sti. but i need to drive them for myself. :D

I personally like the black one:D

I chose the STi.

Here are a couple other points that haven't been mentioned:

STi Pros:
6-speed
Driver Controled Center Dif (you can control how much of the power is going to the front wheels)
Larger Displacement
300/300 HP/TQ from the factory
Sporty suspension but still comfortable for road trips
IC Sprayer with resevior in trunk

STi Cons:
Sporty suspension but still comfortable for road trips.
2 Extra Cams
Good engine management not out yet (E-Manage isn't really that great)
No Radio
Smallish turbo for really high horsepower (no factory turbo is ever big enough though)
Longer block to turbo distance
Drive by Wire

EVO Pros:
Stiff factory suspension
FMIC
Good aftermarket already existed
only 2 cams (right on top of the engine too)
Short block to turbo distance
Recaro Seats (I find they fit me better than the STi seats do)
Quicker Ratio on the Steering Rack
Traditional Throttle Cable
Radio
Every so slightly less expensive
Stripped version coming without the Cop attracting rear wing

EVO Cons:
Lost all the cool JDM goodies (active yaw control, antilag, active center dif)
5 speed
Stiff suspension from the factory
Bumber beams rusted already
Less HP/TQ (easily remedied though)

As a daily driven car the STi seems a better choice for me, however if I was to buy one or the other I definately would need some thinking time.

the EVO also has the IC sprayer reservoir in the trunk. you forgot that the STi has an unproven usdm-spec aluminum forrester engine with a short history of pinging problems (talk about losing jdm parts... engine's a big one)... as opposed to the evo's tried and true 4g63... the evo has had a history of clutch problems when driven hard. the bumper beam rust seems to reside in only a very small percentage of evos. sti has better paint than the evo's... which feels like crap. sti's turning circle is smaller. no cruise control on evo.. i don't know about STi... evo gets 2 more mpg on the hwy... evo has larger dimensions... no sunroof available for STi... buschur achieved 11.65 1/4 time with factory turbo boosted at (i believe) 24psi.

i also prefer the 5 speed...
