does this mean that that my 14.1 can turn into a 13.7 with a quick trip to the local wds machine

that depends on how you got to 14.1. if you did it via cranking the boost up then no. the flash does not really like anything above 9psi.

anyone notice how much easier it is to shift from 1-2 now after the flash? Yeah, it's still a little notchy, but at least now I can do it much faster without any bucking. I feel I can drive again. Pre-Flash the damn car would buck so bad i felt like I was a learning a stick all over again.

Boost doesn't need to be worshipped, just comended on doing the right thing. Convey the message to someone who cares. Your local dealer cares about you , until you buy the car. After that, they could give a s***. By going to "Mazda Customer Service" something got done. If more people had written letters to Mazda or called customer service instead of their dealers it would have been done more quickly. With the hundreds of hours of bitching online, why was boost the first one to get things rolling?

Boost, I thank you for taking the proper channels to get this remidied. My car was re-flashed a month ago and I managed to get a speeding ticket 15 minutes after leaving the dealer, yes it's quicker. Now I just need to chose when to use it, instead of all the way back to work. My last road trip the thing also returned 32 MPG, instead of the old 27 MPG.

The flash is a MUST Have mod. If you chose to listen to the "experts" here, instead of the Mazda engineers be my guest. But don't go crying when you've killed your poor speed and blame it on Mazda.

They didnt reset my ECU after the flash, well I guess what I mean is that they didnt remove power from the battery. All my radio settings were intact. Think I should do a ECU reset ?

my radio was still intac as well. so I went home, disconnected the ole battery, went inside, had supper, went back out started her up and let it idle for near 10 mins. Seem to make a little difference. Could be in my mind though

I would think the dealer would have a means of resetting the dealer without the battery method though. Their WDS should do it after installing the update. rule of thumb for any computer...reboot.

1 yes it is covered under warranty 2 which means it's free and 3 some truly don't know about it and other are :bs: ing you cause they don't want to do it. There's a post somewhere on this forum of a letter going out to all the service departments on how to fix it or something. Do a search for it and bring it in to your dealership and they dont recognize that it's a real thing tell them to do what was written down anyway.

Just got my flash done today. I like the results. Feels smoother up to redline in 2nd gear and pulls better too.

Can't wait to get my K&N dropin tomorrow:)

I must be slow...

There is an official TSB from Mazda for this problem, at least now.
I D/L'd it from Mazda on Friday of last week.

I am having the problem and my car was probably not flashed before I bought it (since they had just received it), and I haven't had it done since.

Will try to get it done tomorrow at Tustin Mazda (closest speed dealer to me), if no success, will get it done at Alhambra Mazda (heavy connections to, purchased car at).

Will let you know how it turns out... and post the Mazda TSB # for you guys tomorrow, that might help some of you convince the dealer it's a for-real-deal.

Justin

P.S.: If you haven't bought a speed and you're reading this forum trying to decide, the price to shoot for is $19,700 before tax.

I paid 18,500 before tax and wish I haggled more. I flashed my ECU a while back and this chick was like OMG...No wait that wasn't my ECU.

As stated many times before, price on the speeds are location-dependent. They might be available in Riverside for $19,7K + tax, but in Austin, TX they can be had for $16K. It all depends on location, demand, and inventory....

*EVERYTHING* ECU fix/comments/thoughts

I had mine flashed last week and have done newf's reset and the car seems smoother... but

- it's been cold and wet recently and it always ran better the colder it was

- letting off the gas gets a nice buck sometimes

- I still have to play with the gas pedal not going to the floor to get best power.

- I'm not noticing a big boost in power.

- There's no sticker.

I'm wondering if there I just got a reprogram of the original code and a reset.

Anyone in Canada have the sticker?

You're right.. the area does matter.. didn't think about that. So anyone in the So-Cal area, that's the right price to shoot for.

***Service Bulletin from Mazda is #01-022/03***

Still no flash for me, will post when it's done.

Justin

Got my flash last night, makes a significant difference in smoothness through the revs. Hesitation is minimal now, more on par with what I would expect from a variable forced induction setup. I had a dip/bump at ~3800rpm and ~4400rpm. That is now gone.

Also received a four wheel alignment, car was pulling right since purchased. Mysteriously, I went out to the car this morning and the stereo did not work. All the operation, no sound. Worked when I parked it last night.

Add Tustin Mazda to your list of "can-do" dealerships.

.. Okay, well.

I took my Speed into the local Mazda dealership a couple days ago, because I was experiencing coolant loss. Turns out that I had some bad hose clamps, and the clamps along with the hoses were all replaced.

The thing is, I don't know if the dealer flashed my Speed while it was in there.

I didn't ASK the dealership to do it, as I already have an appointment to have the flash performed in a few weeks at the dealership where I purchased my Speed. However, there's a 'note' on my receipt that reads as follows:

Check for Check Engine Light comes on
Ran scan for codes
PCM
Repaired as required
Reflashed PCM

I don't know what they're talking about, as far as the 'Check Engine Light' coming on. It's never come on. But, nevertheless -- does this mean my Speed has been flashed?

I took a look under the hood -- and found a sticker on the underside. It says something about an 'Authorized Modification' and then a bunch of numbers. Nothing about the ECU, though. Just 'Authorized Modification' and numbers.

As far as driving, I've noticed that it accelerates smoother. But I don't feel much of a difference in power. Could it be that I have to disconnect my battery, as I've heard some of you have to do, before it all kicks in?

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated!
