Everyone calls it the flying mazda....

Hey guys....Just curious.......
You know the Mazda sign....everyone seems to call it the Flying Mazda......
but my dealer took me that logo stands for a bird flying.....
Anyone heard any other stories ??

Hmmmm..........Now that it as been mentionned, it does look like a flying bird. Never noticed it before.

I believe that is a Japanese thing...birds, flowers...bird taking flight...remember a couple of years back when they had that other logo on the grill?...I can't even describe it...I'm glad someone changed it.

that was a candle flame

Glad to see that flame was extinguished. I tlooked more like a diamond in a circle to me. Oh, well. I like the new better anyway if it's a bird, it's a flying "M", it's Superman.

Sorry, couldn't resist

Yes, it's called the flying M. Looks much better than the one they had in the mid to late 90's. That circle with the other circle thingy inside it. That looked like crap!

I believe this is the symbol you all are referring to right?

i agree, two words Suzuki Hayabusa. but i prefer an R1

We Miata owners call that one the "toilet seat."

One guy talked about modifying it with a hinge, so they could have the "seat down" when his wife was driving the car, and the "seat up" when he was in it. :)

Don

flying m?

you may refer to it as a flying m or whatever, however it is representative of a flying bird signifying "freedom".this is according to mazda canada. wether this stems from japanese philosophy or not i have no idea.

At least the new symbol makes some sense, with the M shape logo, people can relate the M symbol to Mazda, and by the way, has anyone ever gone up to you and said, "Is that a civic hatchback with a kit?"

No, but I've had people ask me if it was a Mercedes - probably because Mercedes has a big gawdy silver emblem too.

if anybody ever say that my car looks like a civic in front of me i'll kick their ass.

on the other hand, one time when I was picking up my car from the dealership, some dude walked by and said, "is that an Infiniti??" :D :D

and to stay on topic, I like the 'flying M' better than the toilet seat logo :D

yeah i get it alot, idiots keep asking me if my car is a 5dr civic HB, how does an M look like an H i don't understand!

I thought the old logo looked like an alien with it's helmet on(dam boose). Glad they got rid of it.

When I look at the new one, I see the tip of whale's tail, just before it dives (imagine some National Geographic cover page). Still don't see anything in Toyota's logo...
