Everybody with Grinding/Pulsating brakes needs to view this.

I am having the same problem with my brakes. My car has 9500 miles on it and I just had the rotors replaced. I did not say anything about it before the rotor change I figured I would wait and see if it went away.

We all should call Mazda and let them document this problem. We've got about 35+ people already with some kind of a problem with their brakes on their brand new car with very low mileage.

The noises with my brakes at slow speeds didn't start happening until around 15K miles, but that is still low mileage...brakes shouldn't be crapping out for people this soon.

i have the same problems with the brakes. I have 17200 miles and i went 2 times to the dealer and they still doing the same noise when i brake under 15mph . Im waiting when some big brake kits come for our msp like brembo or aem to puted in.

That's really not a solution to the problem though. I mean if you want to spend the money go for it :) That's what the dealer told me lol..."you should by some aftermarket brakes" (dark)

RRV Found front rotours out of parallel causing brake judder- machined front rotors - Brake pads recommended- Customer declined

You declined new pads after your rotors were resurfaced? There's a big reason that the problem is back so soon. If you put the old pads back in with new (or resurfaced) rotors, they will damage the rotor more quickly.

Also, here is an important question that I'm surprised nobody has asked yet: how hard do you guys brake? Rotors really won't last long if you drive hard all day every day.

It's my daily driver with 29k miles on her. They should have replaced the pads under warranty as well.

i have 13500K the grinding started at 11000k took it to the dealership 3 times but the problem is it the sound comes and goes and its never there when i take it to them. I usualy hear it when it warm outside ....

OK, for everyone experiencing grinding/noisy brakes, especially at speeds of 20mph and under:

This is NOT a Mazdaspeed Protege specific problem!

Since aesbestos(sp?) can no longer be used brake pads, Mazda has been continually testing new brake pad materials and compound combinations. Because of this, different Proteges have different pad compounds. It depends on a slew of factors, but mainly on production order. For example, Mazda sends all Proteges built within one month out with compound A and the next month they use compound B.

The compounds are tested before installed onto public production vehicles, so don't think Mazda is just slapping them on and sending them to dealers without testing. Obviously their goals with new pad materials are greater longevity, resistance to heat, resistance to glazing, harder bite etc. There are however some negative side effects. One of these is low speed noise/grinding. The noise can even be more prelevant when wet, depending upon which compound you have.

Is this annoying? Of course. Is this a safety concern? No. Will replacing the rotors and pads fix this? Unlikely as once the new pads have been bedded in properly the noise will return.

How do you fix the problem? Turn up your radio, buy some aftermarket pads(Carbotech's for the MSP), buy a big brake kit or just learn to deal with it; except it as another little quirk.

Let me end by saying once again that the noise REALLY sucks and gets annoying, but its nothing an "active" drive can't fix. Every car has issues, you just have to learn to cope with them. Easier said than done maybe...

Well like I said before my brakes work great and dont make any noise other than a hyperactive ABS system on declines, in the parking garage at very low speed. I never really had any of the common MSP problems and I put 33,000 miles on my car in the first year.
I did have my exhaust break and my bad cracked stock turbo hoses replaced by the dealer but that was it. Well and some crazy high boost but it has sorted itself out for the most part.
Anyway good luck to you all.
