Is the european 323F the same as the US protege 5? I saw that the 323F Sport comes with a 150 hp 2.2 litre motor, would that one work as a replacement for the 2.0 motor we have for the p5? Any one know if they have the same transmission? It would be great to simply slap one of those on.

where did you see this?? as far as i know the largest displacement motor is 2.0 litres...

also...if you're serious about switching the motor you should look into the jdm sport20(protege5) motor...it's a 2.0 170hp engine...designed for our car too...

after reading that thread...i'm sure that if tuned properly he could get more out of the engine...i've seen some of the dyno sheets from the jdm sport20s and they're in the high 150s and low 160s for hp....sounds like he didn't really tune it properly...basically just dropped in the engine...i still want to get the engine eventually...but i'll be installing it myself...so components are pretty much the cost...fortunately i have a mazda guru in the family that can help me out with parts and such...but really it all comes down to tuning...sounds like the guy was mix and matching parts without really know what he was putting on...i don't know if this was the case but could be...no offense to him though...
