ETS Top Mount Intercooler Upgrade 3.5 584.95$

says for use with modded engine mount . I'm guessing this is because of the torqe flex of the engine it will rub.

but I want to know if this will work with the stock air ducting and what kind of gians would I expect with this in conjunction with my cai ..... Think it would void the warranty on anything ? the dealer said an after market engine mount wouldn't.

anyone with exp on this one ?

It actually hits the back of the engine bay where that black plastic trimming is.

It works with stock ducting. I've had it on for about 8 months now with no problems.

The dealership wont void your warranty over a TMIC upgrade. IF your dealership is stingy, you could always just change it out. Its a 30 minute install/uninstall. I have a writeup here on these forums.

There is the link to the HOW TO
:)

I got the 3.25" thick one. Zero rubbing issues. except every other month when I rub some aluminum polish on it. :)

Did you notice any difference in acceleration or response ?
i don't have the engine mount but debating going ahead and ordering one is the 1-2 2-3 smoother ?

did you notice any change ? I might just go all out and go ahead and get the 3.5 I've aready had a new tranny put in because the dealer never preformed the engine mount check My theory is that it ultimately lead to the transmissions demise.

You wont notice the difference like the CAI install but it does work. I have the 3.25" and there are no rubbing issues. For me the torque increase was apparent.

let me first say ...i am not bashing.
during research at TRZ motorsport we found that anything over a 3" core on a TMIC on these cars is actually an air flow RESTRICTION !! it will flow more air through it because of the bar/plate design. the problem comes because the IC actually sits too high up it the shroud under the hood. the incoming air hits the front of the IC and get forced to the back of the shroud where it will finaly go through the cooling fins. so basically the front half of the IC is not being used. i think the ETS is a OK upgrade if you buy the smallest size.
the 3" core is still a full inch thicker than stock, and will recieve proper cooling air flow. anything thicker causes flow restriction. sure it will fit... but bigger isnt always better. by the way TRZ is not the first company to see this. auto exe knew not to make their IC so thick. thats why their core is only 2.75" !
the solution TRZ has is to make a whole new IC design for us ! they are in the works of making a water/air IC !! this is the most efficient IC you can get.... better than TMIC, and FMIC. and the pricing should be somewhere in between.

Hm, without even doing any research at all, this actually seems to be better as the back of the IC is sitting right over the turbo so it would actually need MORE cooling than the front. although, after racing, I can touch the IC and its cold all around.

not true. forcing more air of the same ambient temp. over half of the IC will not cool better. the more of the core you can get air flow over the better you will cool.

As of now when I pick up my heavy @$$ hood I notice two little dirty spots where most of my air goes to the IC we might benifit from a CF hood that has a nice little hood scoop that also allows for the stock plumbing... with the 3.25

(poke)

Or you can construct some kind of air flow straightener out of plexiglass and see how well it works. Some datalogging of air temperature charge would provide info if it works or not.

Mine seems awful cool to the touch to have no air moving over it. Plus everybody that has rode in my car has noticed a difference in power with the new TMIC. Temp situations don't mean a whole lot. When somebody does dynos in a side by side I'll belive the "huge" differences. Until then TRZ is doing nothing more than furthering their product. Enough of the freakin advertisements.

of corse it will feel cool.... it is still getting hit by moving air. notice i said getting hit by air ... not having air flow through it. my stock one feels cool too after a drive. that means nothing. want to know why it dynos higher ??? it has less pressure drop across the core than a stock IC. less pressure drop basically means more boost make it to the engine..... whalla !! more power. but any IC that flows better will do that. the 3.25 and the 3.5 versions are in fact less efficient at cooling the air than the 3". it kinda sucks but it is true.
i suggest anyone who wants the ETS to go with the smaller core size. i know IF i were to get one thats what i would do. but i will not swap out for a new TMIC. i will be be using the liquid cooler. it is far superior, no matter what vehicle it is on.
as for the "huge" dyno increases... i dont buy it. i know a few who have done proper dyno tests and showed 5-7 HP gains...not huge. tthe MS3 is a car that can have drastically different dyno numbers for no reason at all. i can dyno my car twice, with the exact same mod set up...not touch a thing and show a 20HP difference. its not hard to do.

Damn now I'm getting anxious this EXEDE PNP and now a liquid cooled TMIC ,I like hearing about it but where are they ?(sad2)

My stock TMIC was hot after normal driving so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Again the "testing" that was done was by a company that is furthering their own product. I'll believe independent testing not what you're selling.

my intercooler gets hots as hell and the hood get BLAZIN.we need a cf hood with air duct for the intercooler and some heat vents or some thing.

+1 for heat vents. You can DIY some heat vents. All you need is a pick axe :)

Anyone own a WRX or know anybody who does? They got venting, right? What did they do right to prevent bad weather from messing up the engine bay? Anybody designing a Carbon Hood with vents and ducting? If they did, they'd get a whole bunch of buyers I bet!
