essential speed vs ion exhaust

Does anyone know how much ION sells just the downpipe for (the part that makes it a "true" turbo back) ? I was thinking that if I was to get that peice from ION and get the rest custom, I would get the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately they won't sell it to anyone separate from their exhaust, which sucks. It basically forces anyone that wants a 3" DP to buy their whole system. I'd rather just buy the DP and get the rest of the exhaust made custom for 1/4 of the price. Stainless steel or not, it won't convince me to fork out $1300 or more for exhaust.

So who else makes a downpipe that replaces the 's' section directly off of the turbo?

No one that I know of. Many have said they are developing one and all but no one has released their product except for iON.

********** is working on one. That's what I'm waiting for, and If that doesn't pan out I will contact Ion about getting their integrated S-pipe/J-pipe.

i'm getting the ES 2.5" turbo-back exhaust installed on my turbo P5 next thursday...i'll post my comments and thoughts then.

i think corksport is working on a downpipe....but dont hold your breath. I have been waiting for them to "finish testing" their prototype hardpipe kit since february.....

The S pipe that ION has only gave a 18% flow increase, in my opinion not worth it, ES did one to use on their exhaust, dynoed it and saw that it was only 18% so no thanks to that. If you don't live near ES I would say don't buy from them, on the other hand I have bought stuff and got it promptly no complaints here.

ive tryed that. they wouldnt sell me.. u can either buy the midpipe/testpipe(the so called downpipe that apex makes) or buy the whole exhuast system..

Where did you get these numbers from...just curious?

I think it comes down to what results you're looking for in the end. We all want monster HP, but most of us don't obtain that level because of economic restrictions or loss of interest or because they just sell their car. It all depends on what supporting mods you want to get along with the exhaust. If its just a CAI or something, then it won't make any noticible difference. However, if you want to push 15 PSI and get around 260 WHP, then I highly suggest getting iON's exhaust over the other setups because it seems that being a true turboback 3" exhaust, its going to make a huge differnce over most other, if not all other exhaust systems. But most of us here still have car payments on top of our desire for speed, which makes it a tough decision when it comes to these types of mods.

Well, im deciding really on getting the mpi tuner or a tb exhaust en for a long time I was stuck on getting a true exhaust because I live in Cali , and I was told by ion that it passes emissions en all that crap so no I'm torn. then again I probably would just go custom because 1300 dollars is wayy too much.

Even living in CA you should be able to pass emissions as long as you have the cat on. The problem with exhaust in CA is noise, and you can get pulled over if your exhaust is louder than stock, which is why I went with the GReddy SP2. When I owned a MKIV Supra, I got a fix it ticket for exhaust noise, twice.
