ES auto vs. Corolla S auto

I have an 02 Protege ES auto, my friend has an 04 Corolla S, what are my chances? He want's to race, and I can't say no... But damn, I heard the s' are pretty damn fast, even with auto. He doesn't know how to break toque yet. Our cars have even horsepower, 130 and 130, but I would expect his car to **** mine because of the engine design... It's more modern and refined, and plus his car is lighter... What do you guys think? Are they any fast?
 
Tru, horsepower is the same, but remember that the Corrola's suspension isn't anywhere near is good as ours. Also, we have 10 more ft/lb of torque to play with. So give it a go and see what happens! The S package is nothing but looks, remember that!

they're surprisingly quick. it's that damn vvti bulls*** they have going. the car dynos at around 120whp according to injen. ours dynos at 102 ish. good luck. just pin the pedal to the metal and see what happens.
 
the S's are NOT fast, i had two friends with one, one was a blue one and the other was a red one. I would walk all over both, and yes they were autos. I dont even see why they call them S!! Unless it stands for slow
 
The corolla will get its ass kicked. The S is really just exterior mods..and its suspension isnt like ours at all. Also our cars are decently torquey. It might have good mileage but toyotas (except celicas and supras...and lexus) arent known for their speed. I have never seen one that attempted anything with me...although my exhaust is so loud they would probably be scared. Let us know what happens...if u get beat...buy a intake and exhaust and then the corolla will definately lose.
 
you will definetely beat him off the line. like all toyotas, all the power is in the high revs, the top part of the power band.
 
no, my neighbor took me car shopping and we went for a test drive in an auto S and an auto LE. they are the same. well, they sure as heck feel the same. the car is eerily quiet compared to ours.

his friend has an auto corolla s, not 5 spd, and he has a protege es not a mp3...but i guess that gives u an idea tho
 
Whoa, so many different opinions. Has anyone raced one of these before? Those dyno charts are scarring me too... 105, compared to 104 is no big difference, but then you realise that it's an MP3 which has a 140 horses right? or is that 145? either way the numbers show that the Corolla is faster... Kinda scarrin me now... I really don't wanna lose... hehehe, worst case I'll just say I don't wanna do a drag race, sayin that we both have autos and no skill is involved.... And set up a bunch of pylons and do some kind of mini autoX, I'll smoke him for sure, no contest.... Oh and someone mentioned, he has an ES, not a P5 like I'm below the P5's or sumthin.... They're basically the same car, cept one is hatched... No difference in engine or suspension....
 
midnight when ur racing use the 1st to 2nd to drive , if u dont already, ive used it at the track and it does help aposed to leaving it in drive, i think you can win..
 
i said in my previous post i ran two!!! one red and one blue. I killed them both, and both commented on it. The blue one is actually my boss. All I had was the injen intake and Mazdaspeed exhaust. Now i have the mazdaspeed cams, and awr header and would like to try again!! HAHA
 
just in case you're all wondering why i have the auto, it's because my parents can't drive stick.... It's sad really.... especially now that I have my dad convinced to learn how to drive manual for our next car... I wouldn't mind trading in for the manual version of my car, but then u never know what other people did to thier cars.... + I already put altezzas and a muffler on it.... Does anyone know if that added any HP? I got a muffler from www.sparko.com, i just replaced the stock muffler, it sounds much better, but i don't notice any gains in power....
 
a muffler alone will give you maybe 1whp if you're lucky. even a full catback exhaust only yields at most a 6whp gain. you gotta get rid of that primary cat with a header or a downpipe with high flow cat. otherwise, all your exhaust gases get bottlenecked right there?
