Engine Stutter at 2500RPMs

Hello to all, I have a question to see if anyone else has experienced this. A week ago my car developed a stutter at 2500RPMs. The car has 20,000 miles and has always run fine. The stutter goes away at 3,000RPMs and up. I have an MS CAI that I installed a year and a half ago, that is the only performance mod. It doesn't matter if I'm accelerating or cruising, at 2,500RPMs the engine stutters, there appears to be no power loss. Thanks for the replies.

1. Check your MAF sensor and ensure that its on the CAI properly.

2. Change your spark plugs - a couple of us have seen some pretty black spark plugs with less than 20,000 miles on the car.

3. Do you have an air straightener installed in the CAI?

I don's have an air straightener, after a year and a half with no problems, I didn't think it was a big deal, I have, though, been considering getting one. I'll check the plugs, I thought it might be that as these cars run rich as hell. Thanks Circle9!

Well, I've changed the plugs, added the AEM Air Straightener, AND cleaned the MAF. The car is still doing the same thing. I guess it's to the dealership to see what the hell is wrong. HAS anyone had an issue like this?

Does this happen with boosting only? I know the tiny stock turbos on these cars are mostly always in boost. The problem is that at around 2500 rpm is when boost first comes on and you will see a dramatic timing drop whenever boost comes on in the low rpm range. So if you have weak ignition, running extremely rich, then you will have a stutter/misfire at this rpm only.

I would recommend doing a boost leak test first. Then if this checks out then try dropping the gap on your spark plugs slightly. What do MS3's like as far as plug gapping goes? .28?

It happens when either accelerating or cruising. It is less pronounced when accelerating if I roll into the throttle rather than floor it. My plugs are Iridium plugs, gapped at .32. This just starting happening and I've had the car for 2.5 years and it has 21,432 miles on it.

Brought the car to the dealer. Had an ECU reflash, new O2 sensor, and MAF replaced under warranty.

i'm experiencing the same issue (stutter / hesitation cruising @ 2500-3000 rpm - no cel's). think i got bad gas from sunoco (have always used exxon or shell previously).

checked my denso itv22s and they were gapped properly. filled up w/ my usual exxon and added a can of seafoam. i'm now hypersensitive to this stutter, but it seems to have subsided.
