engine problem

I am not sure exactally what it is but its a problem for me. Last night my engine started making a rattling noise like something broke and was rattling around . I can feel it in the gas pedal when I accelerate threw 2nd and 3rd but it goes away . I don't think anything in the tranny broke because I get no gear slipage and I didn't hear any or feel anything break while driving. Sometimes when my car is idling it will make a load rattling noise almost like someone is shaking a coffee can with rocks in it and thats almost what is sounds like while driving but with a slight vibration . Any input would be helpful as to what it could be.

Hmmm id say rod bearings but its weird that the rattling goes away.

well on my way home from work this morning the noise go louder for a while. It appeared to be coming from the drivers side wheel area and sounded almost like something was dragging and then I felt a loud sort of bump and then nothing, the sound and feeling went away and didn't come back. Almost like whatever it was broke off, but when I pulled over to check it out nothing lloked out of place. I am bringing the car to mineke tommorow so they can do a steering and suspension check since its free, maybe that will help. All I know it that whatever it was didn't really effect my acceleration or driving at all . It almost sounded like my Cat heatshield broke off or was loose but when I checked it was fine and I didn't get any CEL or decresed performance from the car.

is your exhaust any louder and is it stock still? Might have had the mid-pipe snap off and it is hitting the cross member...That has happened oftern because of the bad motor mounts.

I believe it is the mid pipe . I got under the car while it was running and was hearing a loud rattle from the mid pipe. I ordered a catless mis-pipe from PG so hopefully that should help me out.

you'll get nice gains with that and it will sound awesome...just make sure you upgrade your MMs soon so that you dont break the new pipe

If you wait until the exhaust is cold and just reach under there you should be able to see if it has broken loose...plus it will be really loud while driving.
