Engine Light On!!!!!!!!!!!

95 Protege 1.5 40,000 miles. Engine Light Aluminated and Code. Runs rough at Idle but good at speed. Installed Mass Airflow reset code, code returned after 30 secounds. Installed new Gas Cap and Air Filter code returned. Code AIR METERING and some kind of Manufacturing Code. What do you replace next? I do not want to take it to the dealer!!!

i had a leak bad enough to throw lights - the piping dry rotted, but it threw 15 different cel codes, not just 2...im familiar with air metering code, but not the manufacturing code. can you give the code number?

could it be one of your cylinder's? mine is the same way it missfire's at idle and then when i give it gas it fire's again and runs really smooth (its my 4th cylinder to) it has a really bad idle and sounds rought to. mine cant be fixed without replacing my engine so im jsut dealign with it till i get a BP. ohh yeh and my CEL is one aswell

lol same year and same model so i bet, on clubprotege ive seen alot of people have the same prob with the 2nd gen LX mines been the same way since i bought it and i ha dit looked at and then said cylinder 4 miss fires at idle but then it does not when i give it gas....the only reason i am not going to replace it is because they said if they try to take it out it will break off and fall into my engine thus causing them to take it apart which i really dont want that because its Z5 and i know it will happen again so i rather just drive it till it dies then get a BP

Seems as if low compressino and weak valves is a recurring problem with the Z5 engines. Couple of people are running tests to try and confrim.

you have to check them with a scan tool of some sort. where do you live? If you live somewhere near by me, I could check for codes at school.
 
Sounds to me like a valve problem...that's my first impression without ever seeing the car...I have had many cars that valves either had small holes in them, or they were sunken into the valve hole enough to not seal properly...ran rough at idle, but okay at speed... (confused)
 
Dun make fun of me for asking dis but how do u check the error code, cause my engine light flashes once in a while, and i've no clue wtf is goign on
 
pop your hood. locate the diagnostic box. take a paper clip and jump GRD and TEN. then turn your key to the on position. then count the number of slow flashes-this is the first number of the code. the fast flashes are the second number. then find an online manual/post them here and ill find out for you
 
will it still work if the engine is not on..?

(confused) Am I reading that right? Your 95' pro only has 40,000 miles? jeebus christ! Maybe the engine light is on because it wants to be used more! hahaha
