Engine Knocking????

You now this engine has a normal amount of ticking due to the injectors and fuel pump that normal FI engines don't.

The only thing I hear from the video is a rattle at inital startup. Sounds like dry start up. What kind of oil are you using in there?

i know that the car has ticking and everything the only thing that worries me is the inital start the big rattle. im useing Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 Full Synthetic and this started like 5 days ago and i had a oil change 1k ago the first thing i did was check my oil level. do you think its te plugs???

sound like a normal cold start to me..... the sound of the valvetrain with no oil pressure for a second is just more noticeable because your hoods open and your intercooler piping will amplify the sound. i wouldnt worry too much as long as it doesnt start getting worse.

what im worried about is that it started a few days ago this is a new sound to me and im not sure if it is getting worst it sounds really bad when it is a cold start

ok people i found the problem i found out that it is a lifter ill say more later on at work just wanted to update

ya but i have a mazda tech that is a friend of mine and he heard it and said that it was a lifter and after i turn the car of and turn it on again you wont hear it. so looks like im going to the dealer in two weeks cant make it this week i got finals

Damn, my knocking doesn't go away... I was driving and the engine started knocking really loud and you could feel some vibration in the clutch pedal. Also got some power loss...
This morning I took off the valve cover and noticed that the timing chain was pretty loose.

back to searching the web for answers. haha

Does your car fall in this range?

TSB: 01-043/07
MULTI-MODEL - VARIABLE VALVE TIMING NOISE WHEN STARTING ENGINE

2007 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1BK******742222 (produced before April 1, 2007)

lifter tick possibility

BMW's straight 6 has similar noise issues with their variable valve timing system. A lot of experienced BMW mechanics will say "aww that's normal just drive it"

Also the lifters can get noisy with the tiniest mar in their surface. This rarely effects performance so long as the grit works its way out of the motor in oil changes.

Either way your car should still be covered by Mazda warranty at its age. Whatever it is they will tear into it and fix it for you more than likely.

Also sounds like piston slap, my car has it and it goes away after it is warm.
