Engine Beautification How-To & Costs

You guys asked about my engine bay, so here you go.

1. Silicon hoses - I got mine from Auto Zone. They cost around $15 for the complete set of different sizes. Then you just take off the ones on your car one at a time and cut them to fit. You can probably get them from any auto parts store, you will just have to look around. They are more expensive online at www.hosetechniques.com (I think that is the site). You can probably buy them from JC Whitney.
2. Wire Looms - I got mine from JCWhittney.com. They were also about $15. They have many colors to choose from. The same as the hoses, I just measured with the loom and cut them to fit. Then used electrical tape to secure them. You will probably have to tape them twice b/c when your engine heats up the tape will shrink a little. You will se what I'm talking about when you do it. I have also seen these at other sites, if you go to yahoo shopping and search for wire looms, you will see all kinds of colors from diff. companies. Also, I noticed after I put mine on that JCWhittney has some new ones that come in chrome colors(shiny colors). They look pretty sharp.
3. Radiator and Overflow Hose Braid - I bought these at Auto Zone also. Theywere pretty expensive seeing that I only used a little of it. I wanted to put it on my heater hose and A/C hose but that would get all messy. So I just put some wire loom over them. It turned out to look pretty good. The steel braid kit was $29. JCWhitney and NOPI also have these. I'm not sure if they have different colors. When putting it on you will spill a little antifreeze so dont have your pets around. You can just refill it with water.
4. Plastics Painting - I just bought the primer and high temp paint from walmart(about $3.50 a can). Then used one coat of primer to make the paint stick to the plastic, then one or two coats of paint depending on how it looked. It only took one whole can for all the plastics I painted.
5. Painting the Raised Letters on the Engine Cover - Just put a strip of masking tape over the letters. Press it down good, then useing a craft knife or some kind of razor, carefully cut around the letters. Then peel off the tape that is over the letters and press down the remaining tape around the letters. Then tape off the rest of the cover and paint it. Make sure it's dry before you remove the tape or it will smear. If you get any paint anywhere else just use the craft knife to scrape it off, or use acetone.
6. Racing Beat Decal - I just requested some from Racing Beat and they sent 2 red&blue and 2 white ones. I then took them to a sign shop and had 4 red and 4 yellow made.($10)

All together without the decals, it cost me between $65 and $70. It isn't that bad if you don't do it all at once. I did all of it over the course of about 4 to 5 weeks. As for the custom CAI, I will do another thread since this one was very long. Just remember to take your time with this stuff so that you will make it look neat and not sloppy. Have fun!
:D

Ben I am interested in doing some mods myself I went to an autozone and they didn't have any assorted sizes they had one pack of yellow but it was small in diameter what did you use the hoses for and what size for each application. and the braided hose what size is that and where did you get them. Please e-mail me with the info and maybe the pic of your engine compartment thanks man! I am in the registry for e-mail address

How do you get the windsheild washer hose off? i dont wanna just pull on it.

The windshield washer hose was the hardest one. I had gotten all the other hoses on before I noticed how to do it. The way I did it was to take off the plastid rivits on the wheel shroud on the passenger side. This gives you access to the bottom of the bottle that holds the washer fluid. When you pull it off, put your finger over the hole so that not much fluid comes out all over you. After I did this, I realized that you can just unbolt the power steering fluid container and under it is a connector that can just be disconnected and replaced with the colored hose. You can try either one. The second is probably easier. I wish someone had already done all this before me so that I wouldn't have so much trouble trying to figure out how to do mine. :D

I just posted all this s*** and it didn't post. Oh well, I'll do it again. Here are some sites that sell the stuff for the engine bay. Although it is cheaper if you find it at an auto parts store.
