Engine and valve cleaners, do they work?

Hello every one.

I'm wondering of those addons to the GAS that are supposed to clean your valves, injection system and keep everything clean and humming sweetly works for a rather new car like the Speed6? Or is it something just for old cars or doesn't it do anything?

I run Techron through my gas tank every 10k miles. My friend (An Acura Mechanic) says it helps to keep the injectors clean.

Believe it or not, it actually comes down to the oil and gas you use.

If you use an oil that easily burns or you dont change your oil very often and your oil leaves deposits all over the place then yeah it has some benefits.

If you use cheap gas from somewhere like Walmart then it also has some benefits because those fuels don't have the cleaning agents that name brand premium fuels have.

If you use a good synthetic and change it on time, and use a good fuel then it is nearly completely worthless. I also wouldn't recommend running a fuel system cleaner more than once every 60k miles at the most and you should get it professionally done because they use a different cleaning solution that is many times more effective at cleaning things up, the downside is that it can melt your engine if it isn't done properly because it burns so hot.

I also wouldn't recommend running any cleaning agents through a old car or any car with over 100k miles. You are more likely to mess things up than fix anything, with an old car, if it needs cleaning it probably needs replacing also and those deposits are actually holding it all together.

Well I always buy Shell's 99+ Octane Vpower, it's the highest Octane gas you can buy here in Iceland. It's supposed to have cleaning agents in them but I've seen a lot of these valve and injection cleaners in the shelves. Most people don't use them but heck.. I've never ever bothered to find out if they work and/or if how?

the only way to clean the valves on the speed6 is seafoam. additives in the gas will do nothing for the valves due to direct injection. also our injectors are so high pressured and being in the cylinder probably won't get clogged.

+1 to the Seafoam. I put half in the tank and the other half in the crankcase through the brake booster, seemed to work really well.
