Election Night in Canada

wow didn't think an american would be interested (disregard that if you are canadian). Well I voted Liberal if its worth anything. I'm not really disappointed because of all the trouble the liberals were in regarding the scandals but people should have thought what benefit Canada got from them i.e not losing Quebec in the last referendum. All in all the liberals did not do so bad as predicted. With a (maybe) new liberal leader they will be able to win the next election; perhaps within 2 years.

Conservative for me. Just seems that Western Canada gets kind of left out in the cold with the Liberals. Should change now with a Westerner in as PM.

Well prior to this election the party was sort of only on one side of the country. That would explain being left out. But definitely much better now. From 0 --> 10 seats in Quebec in 2 months pretty impressive.

Ya, I saw that as well. I am not going to say that I know alot about Cdn. politics cause I really don't. I know enough to make an educated choice, and I think that it was time for a change and the Conservatives had the platform that I liked best.

So how many seats does the new leader need in the House of Commons to retain power in the long-run ?

I think 155. Don't quote me on that until someone with more knowledge posts though.

155 + is for the party to have majority. Anything less is a minority government. Right now its 124 conservative and 103 Liberal. The house has 308 seats. the other parties took the rest. So there is a minority government. Depending on how it goes chances are we will hit the polls again in about 18-24 months.

hello america, we are stupid too

Our new leader is a sleezy car salesman... he's essentially the equivalent to George Bush, here... a total idiot and a dirtbag.
Only got into office cuz of some scandal from the other major party.

People are such sheep.

Maybe our leaders can get together and laugh at the word "cheeto".

******* ashamed of my people.

It seems like you guys have 4 legit parties. Our third party candidates never gain more than 1% of the popular vote.

I don't think that it is a good he was elected either.

we have 3 major parties. Liberals, Conservatives and NDP (National Democratic Party)
the 4th is the green party. They have some good ideas and some crazy ones.. as they learn to tone down, they'll get more than 1 seat in parliament :P

Oh well, sorry you hate your countrymen so much. I'm pretty sure you don't want to come south then. Or west to Alaska. Definitely don't want to go to Mexico. Going north or east to Greenland would be waaaaaaay colder.

Maybe they should have kept check on their scandals. (boom07)

So you replaced a 'total idiot dirtbag' with a 'total idiot dirtbag' ? What are the people supposed to do when there are no legitimate choices? Cant you just elect Wayne Gretzky to save Canada? - Kinda' like what California did with Arnold. :)

Nader got 3% of the vote in 2000.

Exactly. Really, what other choice did people have? Especially us in the west that usually feel like we are forgot about.....be nice to have some Western Canada influence as PM maybe.

We'll be going back in 2 years with this minority gov. anyways.
