egr

remove it? that's what im doing until i can get it properly mounted

you'll run a cel but IMO the car runs better

I had my egr valve replaced on warranty last week, the parts manager said there has been an extended warranty due to premature problems and it can be replaced for cars less than 8 years with unlimited mileage. (in Canada anyway) My car is an 03 and was eligible until until October, hope yours may be too?

Nah they are goons over here in the states...figures(pissed)

I would replace, I cleaned mine, just could not get it no where near as clean as a new one. I let it soak in carb cleaner for about 15-20 minutes, scrubbed inside of it the best I could, it looked better, but my car with 128k, just needed a new one. Of course, my idle problem was much more than just that. I put a new one on because I thought that maybe it was bad, and that would fix the idle, it was suggested to me, but worth it.

someone on here suggested to get the egr valve on the canadian model protege's cuz they dont have that much problem with them, and they are cheaper than the american ones. they work too but i rather just spend $10 in supplies than 120 in a new egr.

It doesn't hurt to try cleaning it first, especially if you are on a budget, you may be able to clean better than I could. I did not have anything real small to scrub down inside very well, plus the walls were coated on mine pretty thick. Don't blame you one bit for spending $10 rather than $120, course mine was $140, I got ripped off (hand)

You could always get a used EGR from a member on here. The Canadian version is not the same as the US version and takes a bit to make it fit, it has a coolant line also. I deleted my EGR, haven't gotten a CEL yet. I took the sensor though and plugged it in.. there's nothing for it to open, etc. but somehow keeps me from getting the CEL I guess.
