hi i have problem with mx5 the code is p1498 egr valve is there anything else to check before i buy a egr valve and can i get one some where else apart from the main dealer cheers deano

P1498 ERG valve motor coil 3 open or short

Sounds like the EGR valve is indeed the culprit.

what year is your miata? if its OBD 1, you can block it off with no ill effects and no CEL will come on. if its obd2 you'll get a CEL but thats about it

P1498 is an OBDII code.

The older cars simply flash the CEL when placed into diagnostic mode.
