mazda protege 5 2002
Good news for everyone who have or will have a problem with EGR valve!

There's a service bulletin for that part on protege5 2002. Go to a mazda dealer and if the problem on your car is the EGR valve, they change the part for 0$$$$$!

Of course, if you don't have a problem with your EGR valve, they don't change it.

I had a problem with my car for about 1 month ago. At first, after 2 min the engine had start, the idle was running funny between 0 and 1000rpm when I was in a complete stop. Only for 1 or 2 min. After that, the engine was running fine for the rest of the run.

After 1 week, the check lit up. I went to the garage, and they said it was misfire. So they changes the ignition coil, high-tension lead, spark
plug. It wasn't the problem because after 2 days, the same problem with the idle was stronger and the car jerks. Then I've decided to see on this forum if someone had my problem. A lot of people sad that it was the EGR valve.

One day, I went on the highway. It was very hot outside so I lit up the A/C. After 2 min, the A/C shut off and the check lit up. The code was about the EGR valve.(P0401) So I decided to get my EGR cleaned first, because changing this part is about 300$.

The garage said that my EGR valve was very rusty but sometimes it doesn't mean the part isn't ok. The engine seemed to be running good, so I left the garage. But after 2 min, the rolling idle started again, and harder than before. The check also lit up. I returned to the garage more furious than ever. The code was again misfire P0300 I think. I finally choose to replace the EGR valve. My garagist called the part dealer to get it and he said : there's a service bulletin for that EGR valve, you can go to the mazda dealer and they will replace it for FREE!

that's it! Even if your garanty is over, they are going to replace the EGR valve,
mine is 5 years old, with 77 000Km.

About the bulletin, I don't know why we doesn't have any news on that subject. Bizzarre!

I hope my message will help a lot of people to save a lot of money! $$$$$$

That will be nice if i run into this problem. My car died on me the other day when it was idling. I think it may have been bad gas though.

Well, welcome to the forum. But everyone knows there's a TSB for the EGR valve--it doesn't mean Mazda will replace it for free. If the warranty is up, they won't. The TSB is just a guide for techs about known problems.

Next time try searching the topic before posting--this has been discussed many times before. :D

I know what you mean by it doesn't mean Mazda will replace it for free. It's only when the real problem with your car is the EGR valve. They changed mine this morning for free and I had any garanty left. This is real, not a joke ah!
