Ebay intake FINALLY installed + a question

Hi all. It's been a while since I posted, but I finally managed to get the correct part number for the K&N filter--no thanks to the collective heads of knuckle at Autozone; I had to tell them what to do and they first told me I was wrong before deciding I wasn't--and installed my ebay intake. Intallation took a little while, and most of that time was beding and re-bending the bad brackets it came with so it wouldn't be rubbing against the brake master cylinder. I evetually got it, and everything fits alright. It's ugly as sin (I have the grey piping and the bright blue couplers) but it's finally in.

It sounds pretty cool; not as loud as many had led me to believe. Not too keen on the "shht" sound it makes evey time I step on the gas, but thems the breaks. If I sorta close my eyes a hum while I step on the go-pedal it kinda sort sounds like a blow-off valve. Nah, it doesn't, but I can dream. Throttle response is better; I'll have to see whether my fuel comsumption goes down or not.

Two questions for the seasoned veterans:

-The Purge Control Valve: does it need to be totally upright? I remember someone saying that it neexded to be "level." Mine is currently zip-tied to the vacuum hose (thanks to Natey for the trick ghetto fix), but it is at an angle. Mostly upright: I'd say about eighty degrees. Anyone know if this will be a problem?

-The Vacuum Hose: why is it so damn long? I ended up clipping off about five/six inches. There are no kinks or sharp turns in the hose, and I was wondering if this will be a problem. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to mess things up over something so small.

Thanks in advance. I have to go figure out what to do to my car next...

the tube is long cause it is their only length, they make all of them the same for ease of packaging and everything so it doesnt matter what actual intake you have for what car it is long enough to fit. Cut the rest of like you did, the shorter and straighter the better.

Purge valve control? is this something extra you have or are you talking about the o2 sensor?

Here's a pic of what I've done. It's not my car (Sorry, Natey), but I did the same thing. The brass piece with the two wires leading from it is the Purge Control Valve/Solenoid

And here's a pic to show you relative location, also stolen (thanks, Stealth5)

The injen itake comes with a bracket for this thing, as well as instructions that it should be kept upright, but el cheapo ebay intake does not.
