i just hate how people can't ship to alaska and hawaii because where not connected to the the other 48 states. there are Item I want to buy but NO they can't ship to alaska and hawaii. (argh) (monkey)

I hear ya. I think it's just the specific person, though. I was trying to buy a slot car track for my son, the quote was $219 with $39 to ship via UPS. I asked, "Can you ship via USPS to AK?" They tell me "no, it'd be to much of a hassle for us to go out of our way, UPS will ship it for $84."
WTF?? so I went to someone else, bought 2 slightly smaller sets (but together they're larger that the set above) and had them both shipped for $17, AND they got here in 3 days.
I think some people are just too f'n lazy and dont' wanna get up from in front of their computers to ship something. they'd rather do it all through UPS, since UPS picks up.
Oh, and I hate the ones that say shipping's free in the lower 48, but $67 to alaska. WTF, over? it's not a $67 difference to ship here.

They do that s*** just cause they don't want to deal with it, so they steer the customer away by quoting outrageous shipping rates.

oh man, i sooooo agree with all you guys. I hate the whole, "Use Buy it Now, and get free shipping*" and that little asterics means "Not including Hawaii or Alaska"

Sooo many good deals on Ebay, that we can't partake in. Rims, Protege parts, Subwoofers, Tires, and so forth. God i hate the Pacific Ocean.

welcome to the Canadian cold shoulder.
50% of sellers won't ship to Canada... or if they do, it's 300% the cost of regular shipping (and when you get it, they paid 10% more, in reality)

Another Canadian cold shoulder: PayPal

Used to be, you could use PayPal for most auctions.

Then auctions started appearing that would only accept PayPal with a Confirmed Address. Getting a confirmed address in Canada is hit & miss. The system is completely automatic, so IF your CC issuer supports the protocol to allow PayPal to query for your address, it works. Otherwise it doesn't. There is no other option, no human can do lookups, make phonecalls, or otherwise interfere.

Logic suggests them that a select an issuer that supports this electronic query protocol. How do you find one that does? Well, why not ask the issuers? What makes you think they would know what the f*** you are talking about? The problem is, when you say "PayPal" they lock on that word and insist they "work with" PayPal because people charge stuff on their cards through their PayPal account. You can't explain the subtle difference between charging amounts and address verification, because "working with PayPal" only means one thing for them.

It just so happens that the Canadian Tire Mastercard supports this protocol, so I applied for one, attached it to my PayPal account to verify my address and have never used it since (PayPal charges go on a different CC).

So after all that BS, now sellers are starting to refuse international PayPal, confirmed address or not.

what are you looking to buy? i have no problem sending anything to Canada, Hawaii or Alaska if people are willing to pay the fees to do it. I have sent parts to Taiwan, England, Guam, Virgin Islands, Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rico among others.
