ebay FS-ZE engine

when my motor hydrolocked i found a junkyard in west virginia that had another motor for 400 bucks and it inly had 16,000 miles on it, one of my better finds

If I plan on getting new rods/pistons/hone, what does it matter? Im talking about using this for a rebuild.

I wouldn't use the pistons or rods
I wouldn't use the intake manifold
I wouldnt use the cams

^^^ Im sure people doing NA builds wouldn't mind purchasing the parts I wont be using as well.

If you are going to rebuild for boost then it is essentially the same block as the FSDE, it has higher compression from the factory and a more agressive Intake (i believe) cam which people have swapped into their MSP for noticable diffences. So for a build it would be great if you could get one cheaper than and FSDE then go for it lol but otherwise its really not worth it. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the ZE have oil squirters?

And as far as doing a straight swap from FSDE to ZE you will not see much of an increase in power at all since you cannot wire the JDM ECU to our USDM cars and this is what gives the ZE 170hp vs 140

I think you would still notice some difference in power. The intake manifold, higher compression and intake/exhaust cams are all better. Even if minimal, im sure you would feel the difference, with or without the JDM ECU.

Also, I believe BOTH cams (intake and exhaust) are better than the US spec cams. SR Motorsports sells this intake cam, and the intake cam repinned 180 for the exhaust. These cams would be 100% JDM goodness for our motors :)

Are you sure it's a ZE? It says it will fit a 626 or a MX-3 but nothing about a Protege, unless I completely missed something about the ZE engine.
