eBay Cold Air Intake

I know what you're thinking, but no, I'm not going to ask if it's any good or not. I'm past that. :)

I'm a brand-spankin' new member here, been doing a lot of reading, and I'm wanting to get one, but the only intakes I'm seeing on eBay right now for my '03 MP5 are SRI. I'd like to get a CAI, but I'm not finding any. Beyond the normal "be patient" response, do you have any thoughts on how to get my hands on one? Does anyone have a network contact to someone who offers them? I've already contacted X3 Racing, and they said they'd put one up if they get one in stock.

On a side note, has anyone had any experience with HP Racing's Cyclone CAI?

I love the forum, guys. Some great stuff on here.

check the for sale section on the forums. I also someone who may have a K&N typhoon for sale.

You dont have to get one for an MP5 persay....... Look up other cars and you can find something with similar bends that can fit. Maybe look for an accord. With the right bends and enough pipe you can do your own kit that is what my plan is.

Yeah, I got the same response for X3 on ebay. "If it's not up, we don't have it." Great- thanks.
I ended up getting a SRI from ebay, which was like $25 shipped. Don't know if it really did anything yet, but it does sound cool at WOT. Deeper and aggressive, but not crazy loud like the one I had on my '96 Civic EX. I avoided the CAI 'cause I didn't think the extra $50+ was worth it. I didn't really get it for power, anyways. I'm just hoping to get a little better mpg from the loss of all that twisted, mangled, restrictive plastic stock "piping" Mazda calls and air box.

Happy weekend!! (cheers)

with the SRI be careful if it has the metal piping from the TB, it will rub against the master cylinder and eventually put a hole in the piping. the CAI seem to come with a rubber elbow to prevent that....

All I've done so far to my stock setup is a few things. Took out the "ram air" as they want to call it. 3 different chambers to restrict the flow in just that LOL That sucked. Then I took and cut the whole front off of my airbox. (When ever I get my car back I'll post pics) Then an old trick I learned from some SCCA racers that can't change their stock air filters... It kind of helps it get that high flow filter thing. It's nothing like a K&N but it's better then stock. even though it still is.

Look for rollinlowimports on ebay. That's where I got my cai from. That said. I've got my injen for sale for 90+shipping.

Whatever you get, remember that you'll need to replace the filter anyway. It may not be as cost-effective as you think.

Guesses on shipping cost, mountjonas? Color? How much use?

The main reason I was looking to eBay was the cost factor. Injen, AEM, etc., they're all very nice, but also up there in the price bracket. Even w/ purchasing an K&N filter, I'd probably still be out much cheaper than buying one of them.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't have access during the weekend.

if you want the BEST CAI you need an AutoExec. but then again if you don't feel like dropping about 400 on one if not more you can find the Dragon intakes and they're pretty reasonable. you shouldn't have a problem finding one for about 120 shipped. the Weapon R intake (which is the same maker of the Dragon) is my pick. you can check out the video footage of the dyno test of your vehicle on thier web site. they change the vehicle footage constantly so you might not see your actual vehicle. those run about 190 if you look around really good otherwise they'll be about 80 bucks more from most places. if i was going to buy a SRI i'd pick up an HKS mega flow. 95 bucks. i've seen all of these around these prices on ebay.
later

p.s. AutoExec makes the best of everything in performance and most other parts when if comes to the MP5. look for what they have first if you want the best.
