Dyno'd at NHRA SC TX

Ok, I searched high and low for other dyno sheets and came up with this one :

From this tread:

My runs were the same as her second and third runs but with more tq.

The only things I can think of are that because I had driven there @ 80 MPH for one hour, the 30-40 mins that the car was sitting while waiting for the dyno was not enough to cool down the turbo.

Or, I might just be boosting to 4psi like some others out there. I remember read on this site that the waste gate is adjustable, and that it was inconsistently set from factory. That may explain way some have more boost than others stock. I have no idea how to set it so, I am leaving it were it is and getting a boost controller.

You guys changed your oil @ 500 miles? I still have not changed mine. Do I go directly to synthetic when I do?

Sweet you got the 1st place right? what were the results? who won the glow off? This was some good news after getting a ******* speeding ticket for 22 over! some **** was tailling my ass with his brights on cuz some road rage s***! and i get a damn ticket! ******* PIGS! know any good lawyers?

Yeap, and best engine and won the Glow-off. Maybe you were in a hurry with the other trophy!

......etc.....

Do all dyno plots show the massive dip from 4-5,k RPM or just 2003.5 models? I have driven 4 MSP's (2 '03's and 2 03.5's)recently and the 2003.5 definitely has a dip in that range... vs. the 2003 which doesn't have it as bad. The dip is very easy to feel on the 03.5 whereas the 03 feels smoother. There also seems to be some kind of hesitation and/or surging at about 4200 on the 2003.5. It's very noticeable at part-throttle, so, I'm guessing it's the throttle position sensor not jiving with the fuel map or something like that. I can definitely tell something changed in the engine management from the 03 to the 03.5....

In any case, that dyno plot looks like there's a lot of tuning left to be done. Too bad our chips aren't programmable. Mazda does stuff on the cheap a lot.... quite irritating.

do a search for "hesitation" in the msp forum, you'll see why there is the dip and the hesitation and what is being done about it.

geesh - get the dyno operator to smooth the run...that looks horrible...

Also remember, a dyno is just one snapshot in time...of how your car did on THAT dyno, on THAT day. :)

re: e/t's...

It's all in the 60ft time. Adding all the power you want won't make your car any quicker; it could add to the TRAP speed, however.

Try launching about 5000-5500, using the clutch (gas pressed) to control the wheel spin

whoa, it's big probe!

Smoothing out a dyno plot is great for marketing but, not great for diagnosing engine tuning issues. I was mainly asking if that power curve was the trend with '03 or 03.5's or both.

I've been reading up on the hesitation issue... so far all that I've read deal with the 03.5. In any case, I keep seeing references to to JoeP's products for a fix but, no links. I don't have the hesitation in my '03... but, I'd still like to see what JoeP has to offer.

i have it in my 03, at first i didn't notice it, but after driving it and knowing what a turbo car should feel like as it pulls, it almost feels like it's misfiring as you accelerate rather than just going like it should.

This was not my Dyno sheet, it was from someone called Cirielle in the thread I linked to. She has an 03, but my dyno sheet looked exactly the same exept that my max hp was 136.

Thanks for the clarification... Looks like I'll need to get myself to a dyno fairly soon and see what my engine is doing. I like having things tuned and optimized.
Thanks again,
Carl
