Dynamat in Mazda3 front doors

I will be replacing the front door speakers with Pioneer TS-D680R units. I purchased everything before removal the door panels first so that i am not missing anything for the job.

I went to my dealer today for squeaks in the passenger door and watch the tech as he removed the panel. I was expecting to find a speaker screwed into a steel door panel, but instead the speaker is monted on a molded plastic pod and everything around is plastic.

My question is: I am just wasting time money installing Dynamat Extreme or will it help on the plastic panel as it would on steel??? And where should i apply the Dynamat? The way the speaker hole is made, it is like making a hole on the bottom of a bowl to install a speaker. Is it worth applying Dynamat around the "bowl" or is there any strategic spot i should know about?

I bought the Dynamat Extreme Speaker Kit, just for 2 speakers. I might consider applying a little more if experienced people tell me it is a good idea, but i did not plan on a big budget for Dynamat. Just want to make sure i am getting all the sound i can expect from my new speakers. Will probably install a 4 channel as well.... but speakers first.

Thanks all!

Yes, Apply it around the bowl as you say, just like it were metal. Dynamat works by adding weight to the pannel. It dampens pannel movemnt and stops the panel from making noise. A speaker kit is all you should need. The mazda 3 doors are actually verry good speaker enclosures. They do a good job of sepperating the back wave from the front wave. In other words the're well sealed.

best place for the dynamat will also be on the inside of the outter door skin, if you feed those speakers any real power and they are getting midbass chances are the outter door skin will vibrate. i try and cover any metal with it.

also there are tons of alternatives to dynamat out there that are a quarter of the cost.

There isn't any wrong place to put dynamt on your door. If you only have a small amount the best place would be directly behind the speakers, and a little between the speaker and the door . If you have alot, cover the entire outer door skin, the entire inner door skin, and the back of the door panel. I have dynamat everywhere I could get it on my doors.
