Which key do you guys use? The key with the black cover at the end or the key without? I use the key with the cover and the wife has the one without.

I use to use the one with the plastic cover (I thought it looked cooler) untill I lost it. By the way I checked with Mazda to replace it and the keyless remote and the remote is something like $140 to replace

i use the plastic cover one becuase my rav4 key looks just like it (cept with toyota logo and more squarish) same with my Chrysler key, they all have black plastic on them

I haven't bothered checking, but isn't the all metal one the valet key??? Dunno if you can unlock the glove compartment with it:confused:

well since you ask nice....

I carry the NICE key for My P-5...and the UGLY metal one for my wifes....and visa versa....

and yes the NON-covered key is the valet key....however.....I don't care....since we don't lock the glove box up anyway! lol

I might be wrong, but Im pretty sure I am able to lock my glove box with my valet key. I will check tonight when I leave work (If I remember)

what's the valet key?

I only use the one with the platic, and it locks the glove box.

I use the pretty key and my wife has the plain metal one. I'm surprised Mazda cheaped out and gave us only one plastic key but two remotes. We each get a remote.

For her Millenia, they gave us THREE plastic keys, one or two metal ones, and two remotes. Then again it cost a good bit more plus those keys can't be cut at a regular key store. We each get a pretty key to her car :) [although I rarely drive it].

I only use the plastic key...cuz while on a trip to Toronto I somehow lost my plain metal key.

Hmmm guess that reminds me again that I should really get down to getting another key made for my car...would suck to lose the other one!

I just wanted to add that last night I tried my all metal key (Valet key) and it did lock the glove box. :)

anyone know how much those plastic pieces are?
i had to get spare keys when I shipped my car here from Seattle a month ago..
and they only had metal ones in..so i didnt get the choice of more Plastic covered ones... >_<

They had one at my dealer and it was about $14. But it didnt have a mazda symbol on it, it was just a generic black peace of plastic.

Man, I want one of those vw keys (switch blade type).... I'd be playing with that thing all the time. Only thing is, I would want to see the cost to replace one...

I use the one with the plastic head because it looks less cheap, but both keys are master keys. This is the first car I've had where there hasn't been a valet key. I was sure there should have been three keys (two masters, one valet) but no.

I used to have a VW with a switchblade key. Very cool key, but bulky because the remote is in there as well. Fairly expensive, but like almost anything else you can buy them cheap on ebay.

Oh... I just assumed the silver key was the valet key. After all, you do usually get one. How will go back to the dealer and request a valet key??? Well then in that case Mazda should have given us all 2 keys with rubber on them, or 2 plain metal keys.... This way no one gets key envy :p Who would think a small piece of rubber would be so gosh darn special..:)
