Drove a RX-8

But the r3 looks much better. I wouldn't be caught dead in a first gen.

friend of mine got one as a daily driver (he also owns 2 yellow FDs) and he told me he couldn't stand it as an attempt to be a practical car. too little torque, terrible gas mileage, and some other stuff. the only thing he really liked was the engine itself (probably cuz he's a rotary guy) and its clutch

i think i'd rather have a 3rd gen rx7

When i had my rx8 it was a blast! but when gas prices hit $4.50 in CA it wasn't working out so i traded it in :( i still sport the pic in my sig though lol.

Sadly im to tall for an RX-8.

I'm 6'4" and I fit - you just have to recline the seat a bit (well, maybe more than a bit). It was a blast to drive - definitely handles better than the Speed, but now that I've gotten used to torque...

i adjusted the seat all the way back and down and the wheel all the way up and my legs still hit the steering wheel

I still LOVE the way RX-8s look. Beautiful car and a great chassis. Unfortunately the performance in a straight line is lethargic. (sleep)

not if i did an LS swap...i don't mind the shunning from the rotary-hearted(hah)

That's the way to go. LS swap FD FTW or a 302 Ford in a 2nd gen for a dirt cheap fun car.

I ALMOST did the latter. Even had a car lined up for the swap and everything when I decided another project car was not for me.

must....resist....crossfire.......jokes.....JK.

Looks like you have one hell of a Crossfire there. Yah, not going ot win many straitline races in an 8, also miles to the gallon is pethetic. However, smiles to the gallon is a different story.

I love the looks of the RX-8....very sexy. Poor gas turned me off from buying one. I also question the reliability. I went to the dealer a few years back for a test drive and not one but two brand new RX-8's would not start :(

They were most likely flooded when one of the lot porters moved them and shut them off with out letting it warm up. That will flood the engine about 60% of the time.

Yup. I drive an 8 most days, and i have to be able to make fun of something. For some reason Crossfire's (non SRT that is) are an easy target.

As I said I love the look of the RX-8s- always have. However I think Mazda dropped the ball making them n/a. Twin turbo them and they'd be a blast!

Unfortunately most people didn't like the Crossfire. It gets flack from almost any car group. Even the MB guys. It doesn't fit in anywhere.

It's funny though at the track no one cracks jokes on it. Rather they gather around to ask what the h#ll is under the hood after they see me run. (evil)

The n/a Crossfire is about the same performance (1/4 & accelleration) as the RX-8. My wife has one (the vert in the middle). It feels soooo slooooowwww. If you drove an SRT6 for a week and got back into the RX8 you wouldn't be smiling as much.

lol...funny site in my driveway- my friend picked up an 05 Crossfire Coupe for 11k. (cool)

PS I'm curious as to what Mazda platform will get the Speed-treatment next. (birthday)

i actually liked the crossfires, i thought they looked cool. i really had no clue about the srt6 engines but i figured they weren't a joke (due to some knowledge of the srt 4, 8, and 10)

the only problem i had with them is the chrysler badge. i realize most of it is benz, it's just the chrysler part that makes me say "no thank you"

and the next speed platform will be the mazdaspeed B series truck. utilizing the 4L v6 and twin turbos it will get 400hp and go 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, 3.1 with a bed full of hay to help with traction

I whipped an RX-8 around some cones a few year's back, and I have to say it has tremendous handling capabilities. I'm not used to revving the s*** out of an engine to eek out every last drop of HP, however.
RD400's are fun
