Driving in the wet...

Here's a simple question that's bugged me for a while. Whenever it's wet out and I give it a little too much throttle in second, it always results in wheel hop and never wheel spin. I don't get it. I'm not launching or shifting hard, just a good dip of throttle from a roll.

I understand the wheel hop issues on dry roads(massive amounts of torque for a fwd platform, etc). Intuition just makes me think that with less traction in the wet, it should make it easier for the wheels to spin freely. Hell, it did in my old 1995 Beretta, haha.

Any thoughts?

I understand options to help with the issue (motor mount, upgraded suspension, etc) I was just trying to understand the physics behind it. Maybe wet roads give just the right amount of traction to cause wheel hop more than other conditions?

Because this is what I have experienced in the car so far...

Winter/Snow -> Very easy to create wheel spin
Rain -> Very easy to create wheel hop
Dry -> Wheel hop occurs sometimes

I just felt like wet roads would fall under the category of wheel spin. I was sad to find out otherwise...

I think much of the wheel hop issue with with the Potenzas. I've had two different sets of tires and none of them hopped like that. I have no wheel hop now.

I think you make a good point. My winter tires still experienced bad wheel hop in the wet, but it rarely if ever had an issue in the dry. The stock Potenzas on the other hand, seem to experience it more in all occasions.

Did you push the button?

DSC on off? car can be funny depending.

That does not sound normal what gear? try second, feather throttle in and try to modulate throttle back once you detect spin. Actually that is dangerous. You should leave dcs on in the wet always. Sorry to suggest. Leave the wheelspin at the track. I would ask a garage to have a quick look to make sure your tranny and engine mounts are as secure they should be.
