Drive by wire throttle woes

IS it really a one second delay?

I don't have this in my 2000 MPV... or maybe it's so subtle that I don't notice it?

Does your MPV have electronic throttle? Regardless, the delay is really only noticeable if you have a manual transmission, which I doubt with your MPV. The nature of the torque converter in an automatic transmission masks any delay there may be in the throttle.

The delay in the Mazda3 is somewhere bewteen half to a full second. Definitely noticeable, definitely annoying, and definitely unnecessary.

My MPV is an auto, so yeah, I probably don't feel it.

But the STi is the only other car with the drive-by-whatsit other than the Mazda 3 eh?

That's very strange that there would be a delay?

The Mazda6 also has electronic throttle, and the delay is a common complaint on that car as well.

Many other cars have electronic throttle, including the TSX, and the new TL.

The wire is longer to the throttle body. Hence the delay.... Do not worry couple more years there will not be a throttle cable lol. It will probably be remote or something....

The delay is part of the programming of the throttle. This allows the manufacturer to adjust the amount of throttle and rate of increase more precisely. This should make the car more driveable from a comfort level. The Celica has a similar system, but it has a better feel and lacks the delay that Mazda seems to have.

I would imagine an aftermarket manufacture will eventually come up with a hack for the drive by wire program.

cdglowred5- you do realize that there is no cable on the new cars right, it is all electronic. Maybe I misread your post?

50% throttle=50% torque. 2% throttle=2% torque. 100% throttle= 100% torque...get it?

This is NOT a fad. This is here to stay. The Sentra's have this as well. It REALLY helps on FWD cards because of the jerkyness of having all the drive componants on 1 set of mounts. The Mazdaspeed Protege you have to EASE of the throttle in any gear or the car will buck. Thats because the throttle snaps closed and the computer hasn't had time to adjust the fuel. Electronic throttle eliminates this problem.

My MSP has never really bucked unless I am going very slowly, have it in 1st and let of the gas. Other than that it just lights up the tires and goes.
