drain plug size?

i got 2x magnetic drain plugs which stated they are for mazda's i even looked up the size on this site

protege5 = 14mm

when i did my oil change the other day the plug was WAY bigger than 14mm, i had to use a 19mm wrench to get the plug off.

whats the deal?
 
Plug thread is M14 x 1.5 and I'm pretty certain it requires a 19 mm wrench. The 14 mm is referring to the thread width, not the size of the wrench needed as mentioned above.
 
is used so that in case of any kind of metal shavings or any magnetic debris in the oil it gets attracted to the drain plug rather than cycling through the motor where it can cause harm

its a cheap piece of safty...as the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (thumb)


and yea 14mm = thread width
