downpipe

have some ?s bout the different downpipes.
for the most part, they all will yield the same results, correct?
theyre pretty much all the same thing, except i know the cp-e one offers a catted one too.

anyways, my question is what is the average gain? ive seen anywhere from 20-30 hp, is this realistic?

also, does anyone have a video or know how it sounds on the ms6? with the stock exhaust?

From what I've read there is also another company providing a catted DP for the Speed6. IIRC it's ATP. CS makes a shorty DP that can be used with the Test Pipe, but I don't think this is the best way to go.
The gains are really (again from what I've read) in the way the turbo spools up and it gives you a faster reving engine. As for power there is a noticeable amount of gain, but unfortunately no one aside from manufactures have tested a Stock MS6 and turned around install the DP and catch any gains.
Your estimates of 20-30 hp sound about right.

I'm really considering this option as a fellow MS6r has nothing but great things to say about it. If I do end up purchasing a DP I will go with CP-e as they have great customer support and their company is supporting the MS6 Community better than anyone else in the market not to mention their products seem a class above others. This is the deciding factor for me in choosing a DP, as there aren't really any scientific tests to prove one performs better than the other (including the shorty + TP from CS).

Good luck and I hope this was helpful.
Disclaimer: I'm no expert on this. Just forwarding info I've read.

He said he was considering the CPE which is NOT a "shorty". The only "shorty" is the CS. The ATP DP is the most versatile. Contrary to all the posts I've read in this forum, it CAN be bought with a HF cat. Plus it uses the universal racing-type 3" V-band attachment method, plus it comes with the flange for your OEM turbo, plus it fits aftermarket (Garrett) bigger turbos, plus it's cheaper than the CPE, plus..., well you get the picture.

I don't care what anyone actually buys, but know there are alternatives that are "better" than CPE.

I would suggest that you upgrade your catback system before upgrading your downpipe. A large-diameter downpipe paired with a smaller diameter catback system won't be very conducive for performance. Just my 0.02.

Have to agree ^ an exhaust is only as free-flowing as its smallest diameter pipe. However i would like to see some dyno #'s and a soundclip

i have a MS3 and i'm looking into a couple of downpipes. please let me know your opinion. i'm looking for one that will be high in quality, flawless fabrication and of course most whp gains.

so far i've checked out:

corksport power series downpipe
cp-e catted downpipe
turbo xs downpipe + straigh racepipe

so far i'm leaning most over the tsx just because of the racepipe.

please help!!

The thing you guys need to rememeber when replacing your downpipes is whether or not you want to keep the stock under-car cat or not. If you do, then go with the Corksport shorty DP that mates right up to the stock under-car cat.

Others like CP-E that come with a hi-flow cat welded in mean you remove the main cat and it mates direct to your cat-back exhaust.

Remember too that the car comes with 2 cats stock. The first is a pre-cat built into the stock DP, the 2nd is the under-car cat.

It looks like this from a visual perspective:

stock: turbo > dp with cat > main cat > exhaust
CS shorty DP: turbo > dp with no cat > main cat > exhaust
CP-E DP: turbo > dp with cat > exhaust
