Downpipe smoking?

Does every car smoke after installing a DP?
Does it smoke even with the CP-E catted DP?

I have 2007 MS3 and I would like to get a catted DP but I really don't want to have smoke coming out the back! That's why I ask the question.

I had my corksport downpipe iwth catted mid pipe for a looooooong time. Zero problems smoking wise.

I put on a CPE Catless downpipe recently..... I get smoke sometimes but only after startup (cold normally). And once I rev the engine up or go WOT it will not smoke anymore. And the smoking I do get is only at idle, but it is pretty bad. I am not sure if it's turbo seal related or PCV, or running really rich or what.

Honestly it has not been a big deal at all. I'm not really worried but I would like to pinpoint the issue.

I have Corksport DP and race pipe, no smoking yet, 600 miles on it

Lewis, when you remove the stock downpipe with the catalytic and install the race pipe[nocat] you will have some changes with the car. You might have exhaust fumes you never noticed before. You will see a ton of moisture on cool mornings steaming your rear window on occasion. You might see black smoke under hard acceleration in your mirror. Those are all ok. But if you have all kinds of blue smoke, you have a bad turbo exposed but I would be surprised you did not smell the oil in the exhaust before. I have Cork full and no smoke at about 8000 on exhaust. good luck

I plan on buying the CP-E with the cat. So will I be good to go as far as no smoke?

use 5/40 oil and don't make the mistake many are making including dealers the reg mazda 3 takes 5/20 NOT the mazdaspeed3 ours cars take 5/30 its in the manuel under turbo mzr. Laloosh has 5/40 with no cat for 25k and no smoke..

Ahhh so it will be harder for the thicker oil to make it past the turbo seals??

i think thats the result some are getting, i know lalossh and a few others have ahad sucess. my buddy catless was smoking he found out the dealer put in 5/20, he put in 5/30 no smoke for 6months now according to him.. My freind is "nig3" on these forums you can ask too if you want

Since you mentioned oil. if the seals are bad, they are bad and should be warranteed. I have run full synthetic for about twenty 2 thou and turbo is still hanging on. 5-30

had my catless dp/rp for about 7500 miles with no noticable smoke, i can smell it some times but dont see it. blows black smoke at wot [rich] which gives the hatch little black freckels. BIG increase in power though.

i had an issue until i installed my xede, pumped more fuel in there and hasn't smoked since

I dont know if the smoking is turbo seals cause it comes and goes if it was the seals it would be there all the time. Right? Someone said he hasnt smoked since he changed his pcv. We should try that

i have full turboback exhaust. no cats and i only smoke out the exhaust when i get on it. but thats pretty normal. im not worried about it at all. i dont smoke at idle. but i do get fuel cut or boost cut.. not sure which one it is. or it might be both.
