down pipe install question...

ok,so yesterday i got my down pipe replacing both my cats and with a cutout. i also got an Injen cold air intake. i have a question though. while im driving the car,i hear this i guess you can say HIZZING noise. i can only hear it when i give it throttle. the more throttle i give it, the louder the hizzing gets. is it supposed to do that because of the CAI or should it not do that? i think i may have a leak somewhere. maybe one of the bolts isint tight. thats what i think is wrong. anyone else have any other ideas?

yups, that noise is an exhaust leak. check your bolts on your downpipe and make sure that they are all super tight. i have that same problem except i stripped mine and it won't turn anymore. but mine isn't super loud like how you mentioned though.

definitely sounds like an exhaust leak. if you can, have someone rev the engine while you duck under the car to get a better idea where the leak is coming from.

will do that ASAP. one question though,is it bad to ride with an exhaust leak. my work schedule kills me during the week and i probly wont get to until sat.

this could also be the sound of your CAI sucking in air.

nah, you'll be fine. i had an exhaust leak AT the exhaust turbine. one of the bolts that holds the catridge to the exhaust turbine shook itself loose. i ran like that for a week before i had a chance to fix it. however, you may want to replace the gasket if the leak is occuring at a flange, which is probably is.

haha, yeah i hope you're not confusing the sound for the sound of the intake. if you hear this sucking/whooshing sound, that's your intake.

You sure it's not the CAI sucking sound?

Open your hood, behind your engine you'll see the throttle body cable with a small pully. Push down on the pully a little and your car will rev up like you step on the gas. You'll be able to hear the turbo sucking air and this could be what your noise is.

You could also put the stock airbox in and if the noise is still there it's definatly the exhaust.

You say your exhaust has a cut-out? Maybe it's just not closed all the way. check the bolts on the cover plate to your cut out before messing with any of the others.

actually it might be, cuz i can hear more when im driving the car instead of in the passenger side. hmmm.... i'll check it out.

at the very beginning of the clip, you'll hear this sucking sound...if you purse your lips and started to inhale faster and faster, it's a similar sound. this is the intake.

Uhhh...yeah, I bet you are just hearing the INjen noise. You won't hear it as much if you just rev the engine, but when boost comes on when you are driving, you get the kickass supercharged wet-vac noise. It sounds different than a SRI, too. I have never heard an exhaust leak that sounded like hissing, or anything like the CAI noise.

If it starts at 2000rpm and get louder with higher rpm then its your CAI.
