Door Lock Button - Is there an option to Add a Backlight?

At night, I have a hard time to locate the door lock button due to lack of back-light. I would like to add a light just like the power window button. The door lock button seems to be translucent which may be lit by a back-light. Do you know if this is possible ?

Thanks

There's no "official" option.

I haven't taken a look at that particular section of the service manual, but if there is open and accessible space behind the switch panel, it might be possible to run an LED in series with whatever is powering the driver window switch light, and somehow secure that new LED behind the door lock switch. That might provide illumination around the edges of the lock switch.

I've also read that the panel is more lit up in EU versions of the CX-5. If so, it _might_ be possible to pop out the NA version and pop in a EU version. (I doubt it would be that simple, but it might be...)

Two options:

-Import a Euro, Asian, or Aus CX-5 window/lock switch panel which is lit. With this, you also get the option of adding power folding mirrors.
- Calculate the proper LED and resistance needed and somehow slap it where it will light the switches from above.

I too hate how the U.S. got the end of the stick...

I too, find this an annoying and unnecessary example of Mazda being chintzy. In the few weeks of ownership, aside from the HU issues, this has been my biggest quibble. I know it's a 'first world problem' and not a deal-breaker by any means but, I think, entirely unnecessary. I don't know how much it would cost to back-light, at least driver door switches; but, I can't imagine it would be that much, especially when driver window switch is already back-lit.

If anyone finds a fix for this at a reasonable cost, please post here with a link to supplier and instructions, if possible. Thanks.

Yes, the lighting on the controls is crazy stupid. I can't believe everyone but the US market has lighting. I have even though about putting little glow in the dark stickers on the controls.

Do you know that it is just a matter of adding the 'missing' led? I can't tell by the .pdf you attached. If so, do you know what type of led it is that should be ordered?

If possible please post pics of the procedure.

Thanks, in advance.

If this route is chosen, be careful you order from a region that drives on the same side of the road as we do. It would be a huge disappointment to go through the effort of importing a panel that would only fit on the passenger side of a NA car.

The attached pdf only shows how to remove the cover from the door. From this point, I will open the cover to find out the LED specification. I will then order a new LED which I will attach in series (no need to add an extra resistor) and voila!

It is not simply a "missing led". This no transparency in the plastic panel and switches for an LED to shine through other than the driver's window switch.

Yeah I can't seem to find the unlock button at night. I just put the car in park & the doors unlock automatically so I can let the person in.
I set the feature to lock/unlock when in & out of Park.
Car should be in Park when doors are opening anyways.

That seems like an easy job. What I don't understand is how it can be seen through the switch, since the switch doesn't have any transparent areas.

That is simply a tutorial on swapped LED's in accordance to their resistance... You can add LED's all you want under the switches we have in the US. You still won't see a damn thing.

Interesting the EU model doesn't have the door lock switch, just power windows and power windows lockout maybe I cannot see it from the picture.
