Don't use synthetic gear oil?

Don't know if Lucas is what you're calling a 'true' synthetic, but the 20W-50 is Lucas and it's consuming that as well.

Never research Lucas Oil... Hmmm... (scratch)
I know Red Line is basically the highest grade oil you can buy locally made with PE Polyol Ester base stocks. I have found it resists to burn up, etc. better than any other synthetic...

Weird... How old is your mower? Are you keeping with the same grade?
I wonder what B&S use... (huh)

It's a 2004, oil changed after the last mow of each season, and once mid-season. Runs very well, always starts on the first pull (even the FIRST pull of the season). Never burned a drop of dino oil but it got suddenly thirsty with Mobil1 5W-30. It's better with the Lucas 20W-50 but it's just disturbing to me that it uses any at all, after starting so suddenly. I originally used B&S lawn mower oil, which is basically a straight 30W and it never used a drop. I'll probably switch back at the end of this year.
