Does the 2010 MS3 have a flip key? If it does hopefully it will work on our MS3's. SO who's got the answer?

its push start, so i think it is one of the key cards like the ms6. but im not 100% on that

Push start only with the tech package. Otherwise it has a key, but I haven't seen the key fob.

can someone explain the appeal of the flip key? Its just one more thing that can break. I guess I just dont get that fad.

Don't you have to carry other keys anyway? How do you get in and out of your house, workplace, etc.? Just another gimmick to me.

I had a flip key on my last car that lasted all 7 years that I owned it, so breakage is not really an issue.

It's just nicer to have one compact fob in your pocket than 2 separate items. You really need to have one to realize how nicer it is. As well, my fob keeps hitting the steering column when I drive, which kinda annoys me. This wouldn't happen with a flip key. But that's a petty issue...

And, most important of all, you can scare off punks by flippin' open the key switchblade style. That'll show 'em!

Personally I like having a key that has no electronic buttons or anything on it. When I go to the beach I can take all my keys and keyfob off and just keep the key to unlock the doors. By not having a fully integrated key I do not have to worry about it getting wet. It is really nice to not have to hide the key in the gascap or ontop of a tire or burry it somewhere.

You can actually pop the top half of the switchblade key off and carry it.
this.

With the tech package MS3, you get an electronic key fob With the 3 buttons: lock, unlock, and panic. There is a small switch on the back of the key fob. If you click the switch and pull on the ring portion of the key fob, the fob separates and you have a real metal key AND the separate electronic portion. The key can then be used to unlock the doors. There is also a "trap door" in the steering column that you can stick the key into and then push the start button to start the car.

Flip without tech

So does anyone know the answer to this yet?

Flip without tech package

Transponder fob/push start with tech

FYI My wife's 5 has the flip key and one thing I like is that retracting the key will prevent any inadvertent scratching the car with the bare key. It's also more comfortable in the pocket.

I had a flip key on my Mazda 5 too. I wasn't crazy about it. What bothered me most is that it would often open up in my pocket and jab me in the leg... And it always felt quite fragile. My fob for my MZ3 tech package feels much sturdier and it never has to come out of my pocket...

Yeah that happens to me as well.

yeah the flip will open in your pocket. The only downside. IMO

FYI for my 1st Post

Just got the wife an '10 3 GT (White) with Tech Pkg., and the fob is slick except that it doesn't automatically lock and unlock the doors based on Proximity to the car. You have to lock the car door with the fob lock button, but you can unlock the door as long as the fob is on your person by pressing the little black button (it's called the request button) in the door handle.

Does anyone know what the 'hold' button on the fob is for, it would save me a trip through the OM.

Thanks in Advance.
