does current cx-5 up to 2016.5 have auto/motorized trunk/liftgate?

Before our CX-5 my wife had a 1996 Toyota Corolla, which is what we brought our son home from the hospital almost 7 years ago. We had rear-facing seats in that car and my 94 Integra (2-door coupe) for several years. We made do, and it worked out. Our CX-5 Touring is flat out LUXURIOUS compared to those cars.

For a 5'11 guy the true ergonomic posture would provide little room in back for a lot of current model car seats. People dont use ergnonomics and can make do with it - but its a discomfort. How often do you sit and drive in a car - very. How often do you need power lift gate - probably 30 times in its life.

For others who say he carries a lot of bags - ermm there are things like shopping trolleys and strollers that can be used. Unless you are buying from farmer's market where its all foot traffic and even then you can get a double stroller with a good storage space.
So as CX-5um said - if you are shorter than 5'3 or special needs than yes you need the power thingy otherwise it can be a feature that pushes you to buy a car but it can't be the primary feature you buy it even though you hate the styling / handling / mpg / other comfort.

I'm 5'11, with longer legs, and I still have to move the driver seat forward somewhat from all the way back in order to drive comfortably in the CX-5. And at that seat position, I also have plenty of rear leg room with space between my knees and the back of the seat in front. We don't have any of my son's rear-facing seats anymore, but I'm sure they would fit in the CX-5 without much issue.

I hope that the power liftgate is an optional extra and not standard as I have found them useless. I had the misfortune to have a RAV4 on loan for 3 weeks after someone reversed into the front of my CX5 when it was parked. The power liftgate was USELESS. It was so sloooooooooooooow moving up or down which in the UK is no good as it rains most of the time so the contents I put in the boot (trunk) got wet. Also when parked at work I have to reverse into the parking space up to the building wall. As the powered liftgate moved up from unlocking I sometimes had to stop it by hand before it caught the wall and scraped up it. Of course, in the manual it said NOT to stop it by hand. It did make some grinding noises so good job it was not my car. With the Mazda manual liftgate I can stop it immediately it starts to rise and close it and then finesse the parking by an inch ot two so the liftgate clears the wall. Bear in mind that UK parking spaces are a lot smaller than US versions even though modern cars have been getting bigger and wider for years.

I open the hatch everyday to put in my work items so a powered version is no good for me.

Thanks Jonno21. Your experiences and frustrations with the powered lift-gate nearly duplicate mine, you articulated it in words much better than I.
I can imagine accidentally deploying the hatch while carrying something (e.g. bicycles) on a hitch-mounted carrier might cause damage as well.
I do like the instant flip open and close of the manual lift-gate in the rain.

Thanks RG_Flyer. I was wondering whether it was just me(drinks). I sincerely hope that the powered liftgate is not standard otherwise the new CX5 will not be for me in the future(nervous)

This. We're about to head on vacation in our CX-5, with my bike and my son's trail-a-bike on a hitch rack. I will have to loosen and turn the handlebars sideways on my bike in order to be able to open the gate and access the rear cargo area while the bikes are on the rack.

This is the second version of the product, not loud and with a motor wich pull the last distance proper in the lock!
You can combine it with a sensor below the bumper that you can open it with your foot if you carry something with both hands. There is a button for inside the car that you can open from your driver seat a button at the rare to close it like in all the other cars you know and additionally you can open close with the car key.

Best regards 101

I am not "butt-hurt", lol : ) I traded an eight month old Jeep Cherokee for my current 2016 CX5. It was always an inconvenience for me to have to rearrange my packages in my arms/hands to reach for my key fob and open the tailgate. I can open my CX-5 tailgate literally with one finger (proximity keyfob in my purse)!

LOL - if we all solve it pimpwise like in the video above - nobody needs such unnecessary tool.(cabpatch)
