Looking for a source for a blower for a 2003 Protege' 5. No turbo's please. Just a good old fashioned belt driven SuperCharger. Any info is appreciated.

you will have to go custom for a supercharger, it would be cool to see a protege with one. If you search there are numerous threads on this. Area 51 made one but it is over 10g's. I would love to see someone follow through and actually get one.

if someone would want to I would make one for them. I think it would be a fun project.

I thought you went to bed (no)

What would be the projected price on it?

I could not sleep. I will get to in a second

I would need a test car and it should come to $3000 to $3500 for a kit with a vortech supercharger.

damn thats not bad....wish i hadnt bought my turbo kit and that i lived in pa, oh well i cant have everything

Can have to assume there are several draw back to a supercharger for us rather then a turbo as only one company has bothered to make one thus far.

good point, cause thats about the cost of a spool stage 2 kit? any ideas on hp or anything paul?

Paul? you talking about my turbo kit, or the supercharger....

We are trying to dyno my car soon.

Andy, would the super charger be intercooled. I would love to see how that would turn out.

what about an electronic charger...?? can be used for temporary boost, and selling the car is easy just uninstall the parts...

i'm currently looking into this, with a motoring journo, so if we hear anythign, i'll let you all know

Careful . . .

Basically, if this is what I think it is, it's a joke. Someone posted a link of the "testing" of one of these and it did absolutely nothing. By engineering calculations, alone the idea is impractical / impossible.

well thats what i thought, but anyway he's gonna crack open the library down there and see what can be dug up...

the question lies in how the hell do you get an electronic fan to turn with enough force that is could create a good bit of pressure

honestly i think it could work, but as i said he is a motoring journo he writes up stuff he is well researched .... so i'm gonna wait until monday for the close of business when he shows me what he got

I say go for it

The hardest part about uninstalling the electric supercharger is getting those fan blades out of your engine when they break off

yeah plan was to place steel meshing somewhere in there... such as the mesh on some maf's

i'm happy to experiment - but i don't want to **** up my car either!

i'm gonna stress it again - i'll get back to you on exact costs etc

true... but while that is the case whats stopping any other blades entering the manifold?

(scratch)

Why not just put a real supercharger on? Are you thinking about selling your car that soon? And what are you going to do with a used electric supercharger when you take it off to sell? I'm sure you could find a buyer for a fast Protege :)

naa its not that - its a 1.6litre mill!!
ya can do mods and mods and its still a 1.6litre at the end of the day... - given a choice what would you rather fit a turbo/supercharger to? i'd personally go for the 2.0 - but my next car isn't for a while ..... hmm i dunno i think i need to sleep
damn its nearly 4am
