650 bhp V10 for 2008

This is one group of prototypes that all our sources are stumped on. And there wasn't just one powertrain prototype here - there were at least four of these red-hot Vipers with a vinyl-covered camouflage hood and various wires and test gauges - but nothing could hide the huge vents on the hood, and we managed to get excellent views.
Sources are telling us NOT to expect a 2007 Viper - that model-year will be "skipped" and the '08 models will make an early appearance within the first quarter of 2007.
What we do know is that Dodge wants to expand the horsepower in the Vipers, but the "what" and "how" are currently just rumours. One "rumour" is that McLaren is involved with the Viper project and is tweaking a V10 to put out nearly 650-horsepower!

Those side exhausts are hideous. I hope they're at least flush with the skirts in the production version.

Wouldn't it be nice to see them make some enhancements to the car's ability to stay grounded. 650HP is well into stupid=power territory without serious amounts of traction. Since the car doesn't utilize AWD or a rear wing, I think the only other place to change would be the underbody airflow. Every car that wants to be considered a serious performance-first supercar has huge venturi tunnels (a la Ford GT) and other bits of aero body that add to high-speed stability and grip.

I remember the Hennessey Venom in the 90's cars which had 600+ HP. Getting power to the ground was a major problem. Its still is a problem with the Hennessey cars when they're not wearing racing slicks.

Alright, we got more power, now how about laying off the power and adding in some better brakes? It's like flying a Space Shuttle, a flying brick, lol.

I hate how they call these "spy shots." It's a test mule, so don't think that the final product will look like that.
